Abnormal Fertilisation

Hello lovely IVFers

I am slightly at my wits end was wondering if anyone else has any experience with high rates of abnormal fertilisation?

We are now 4 cycles in, my retrieval numbers havent been bad given I am now 42.

In the first cycle only one of 10 eggs fertilised normally, in the second cycle it was 2 of 6, third was 2 of 9 and this most recent was one out of 12. Generally, whilst some of the eggs werent mature or just didnt fertilise most of the eggs fertilised abnormally with more than 2pn.

Has anyone else seen fertilisation failure like this before but still had success? wondering if I am deluding myself.

Hey OP, I don’t know if it’s strictly an indication of egg quality, but have you looked at your partner (if you have one)’s sperm quality? And what method are your clinic using? My dp has very poor morphology and so they do icsi, which has given us very high fertilisation rates (not that we have good numbers or make many blasts)

thanks for the response @aLogLady . Partners sperm parameters are generally fine other than slightly elevated dna fragmentation levels, our results with ICSI havent been any better so far u fortunately.

Thankyou, I’ll say one more thing but it is my anecdotal experience, and my issue has been slightly different. But with highest stims I got fewest eggs. With middle stims I got the most eggs (5 instead of 1) but poorest blast results, with lowest stims (natural modified so really low) I got one egg and made a high quality blast (untested). It was a decision by my clinic to try see if low stims made a difference to quality. I can’t say for sure that’s the reason I got such a good quality blast, as luck must be part of it, but if your consistently getting the same results with the same protocol, it might be worth exploring what a chance in protocol might do. I hope others come along with more useful/relevant words!
