Initial infertility consult - is lack of next steps normal?

Been TTC for 18 cycles, absolutely nothing. Both 34 and in general good health. DH sperm test showed somewhat low morphology but other parameters fine. All my blood tests have come back fine, periods really regular, ovulating as expected etc.

Had our first appointment at the fertility clinic and the consultant scanned me, said everything looked fine, and basically said nothing to do but wait to be eligible for IVF once we've been trying for two years.
I wasn't expecting to try letrozole/clomid as my ovulation seems totally fine, but thought a HSG/HyCoSy was a pretty standard next step? He basically said no point as everything looks fine on the scan but reading around this seems pretty unusual to me? Has anyone else been in a similar position and was there anything else you tried?

This is what happened to me.

Nothing abnormal raised for me via blood test and scan.
Husband had 0% morphology but all other parameters in range for him.

GP referred us after 2 years of trying. By the time we got through the hospital fertility clinic triage and referred to the IVF speciality it is now another year since GP referral so 3 years total.

We are a bit older F37 M41. It has been pretty frustrating, upsetting, so many emotions having no answers and just waiting it out for each next appointment.
