Partner and I have been trying to conceive for 2 years and have been told we have unexplained infertility. In Wales it states that you have to wait 12 months from referral before having a cycle of IVF. Does this apply if we have been trying for 2 years and have been told we have unexplained infertility?

Also, from what referral date do you count from?

Hi! Im not from Wales so I dont have information for you but I hope that i can bump your post so someone else can answer. From reading along in these forums some people get in around 6 months to have a consult depending on your criteria but then also have to redo testing which can also take time before actually getting into treatment.

I live in South Wales (Aneurin Bevan health board) and the process has been go to our GP for initial testing (scans, bloods, semen analysis) - this was done pretty quickly. Then, there was over a year wait to be seen for consultation in Gynaecology to fully go through the test results. We then found out we have severe male factor infertility so are being referred to IVF clinic. Unfortunately by this point our tests were 5 weeks over the 12 month mark so we have had to have a semen analysis and my blood test completed AGAIN. We paid privately for the semen analysis this time (£100) just to speed up the process otherwise would’ve have to wait 3 months. Had this done yesterday, now waiting on the results for 1-2 weeks, then can call gynae to let them know tests are done again and they will put finally put in referral to IVF clinic which is then a 26 week wait to be seen for another consultation. The process is LONG. Baring in mind when we initially went to GP we said we had been trying for 2 years when we had only been trying for 6 months (naughty I know). But the process is horrible.
