NHS IVF referral wait time

How long after being referred did you get your first appointment with the IVF clinic. It hasn’t been very long but I have no patience! I know it differs in different areas but just wanting to know about experience with wait times! Thank you

We are based in Surrey

GP referral November 2024

Hospital fertility clinic appt was initially June 2025- this was later pulled forward to Feb 2025

LOTS of back and forth with blood test and scans and repeats with paperwork. The admin was painfully slow and just really badly managed in term of comms for next steps.

Funding approved by ICB April 2025

Consultant appointment with IVF clinic June 2025

Egg collection/ IVF August 2025

I have a scan on Friday to check my lining for Frozen Embryo Transfer in the next week or so (hopefully!)

We were referred for male factor (0% morphology) but with supplements this improved. Each step has been to tick a box rather than diagnose so I dont think it could have been any quicker, each time we have paperwork, we return it within a day. I also book the next available appointment and we reorganise ourselves around it.

The longest waits have been for appointments, or tests/ scans/ drugs that have to be done on a specific cycle day
and it hasn't aligned so we’ve had to wait another month. E.g. they tell you on day 10 they need to do day 5 and 21 day bloods. So you book the appts, then when they get the results its day 11 and they want a scan on day 9…. But never think to just arrange to do it all in one cycle.

It has been a very frustrating journey, I was envisioning maybe being pregnant or even having a baby by Christmas 2025 and I've not even got to the transfer and 2 week wait yet!

Hi OP. Seen by GP in March last year, blood tests and swabs done within the week, results took another week, referred to the NHS IVF clinic of our choice (Guy’s Hospital), seen there in June. Unfortunately we didn’t qualify for NHS funded IVF but we were told by the clinic that if we did, we’ll probably cycle in around 10 weeks from when we submit consents etc. Best of luck OP.

Hi, we were referred around Sept/Oct 2024. I can't remember exactly when out first appt was with the clinic, I think it was early 2025. But we finally did egg collection and transfer in Sept 2025.

Has anyone been referred to Kings IVF recently? What was the process and how long did it take from referral to your first appointment and starting IVF? My GP is going to refer me just waiting to do some hormone tests on day 2-5 of my next cycle. I’m 37 in April and really want to get started as soon as possible. Thanks so much for any insight.
