White blood cells in semen analysis

Hello everyone. My husband and I are going through fertility tests at the moment. All my bloods and scans came back normal. I'm going to get a test to ensure my fallopian tubes are open next. My husband's semen analysis came back with some white blood cells in it , so he is having to have a second test next month. Should we be worried about the white blood cells? The consultant didn't think so.

Hi! I believe this can be due to illness or infection in the last 3 months, Covid, flu, fever etc. Probably all cleared up by the next test if not they can hopefully just treat it with antibiotics so I wouldn't worry 😊

Is it definitely white blood cells? My ex partner once had this and they did another test in a month because they said it could either be white blood cells or lots of immature sperm (without the tails I guess they look the same). They said the only way they could rule out one or the other was to do some other kind of sperm test (I'm afraid I can't recall what it was). So did he have 2 tests on the sperm to defintely confirm it was white blood cells?

My ex partner's ended up being immature sperm cells and therefore they just said we'd need to go ahead with ICSI (we didnt progress that far together though).

But yes, I agree with the PP who said if it IS white blood cells it could just mean fighting an infection

Hi, thanks for your reply and your reassuring message. They said there were white blood cells and that they'd do another test in 4-5 weeks and see if they were in the next sample. So hopefully they won't be in the next sample or like you said maybe it's immature sperm cells. Sorry to hear you didn't progress that far together.

Thanks so much your message. I overthink EVERYTHING and I'm just used to getting bad news with regards to having/trying for a baby so I went straight to the white blood cells being something very bad
