IVF experiences in Surrey and London

Hi there,

We’re considering starting IVF in Surrey and will be going privately due to timelines and low AMH. We’re finding it difficult to choose a clinic and really want to make a good decision! Cost is definitely a consideration but we also want to give it our best shot. Looking at clinic websites and the HFEA, they all seem fairly similar. I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for clinics in Surrey or London? If you went with a London clinic but live outside of London, how did you find the commute back and forth?

Any thoughts would be really appreciated 😊

Hello Op, sorry to not answer your question but thought it was worth writing to you as we lived in Surrey when we had our DD. We used Wessex fertility in Southampton and found it a really good clinic, so much so we continued to use them to have DC2 despite having moved further away. Would really recommend them. Good luck!

Thanks so much. There’s so much out there and we don’t know anyone going through something similar so it’s really useful to know!

No problem. It’s a minefield! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions x

I have no experience of comparisons as I have only attended the one clinic. Care Fertility- Woking, I have found them to be great so far so recommend for treatment.

I have completed egg retrieval in August and we are now waiting for my next cycle to start, so I can begin preparation for a frozen embryo transfer.

Couldn’t fault them so far! Great facilities, staff are really supportive and explain everything really clearly, always responsive to questions- and I’ve had tonnes!

I chose them based on the HFEA outcome data and also location. Before the M25/A3 roadworks started it was a fairly simple and quick journey. There is free parking at the clinic which after the countless blood tests for NHS referral is such a small thing that makes things so much easier. Turning up, parking and walking in Vs arriving early to find a parking space etc

They’ve provided really comprehensive details of each step in video format so making any decisions as been relatively easy. I feel it’s removed a lot of things I could potentially worry about as Ive been confident I've made the right decision for everything. I now follow the protocol day by day and wait to get the outcome we’re hoping for!

A few friends have completed IVF or egg freezing with London clinics and their experiences put me off committing to a longer journey.

While I live within commuting distance I didn’t fancy a traipse into town for a 10min blood test or scan appointment. Once nearing egg collection I was also pretty uncomfortable, so while I would have been fine on the train, rolling out of bed and sitting in the car for 20mins was definitely preferable! There are quite a lot of appointments for scans and blood tests, and they do tend to move at short notice based on your response. Ive mostly managed to book these before 9 which has made things easier to keep my employer out of the loop for as long as possible.

On egg retrieval day I needed to be there at 7, so to get into London would have been a very early alarm call

Good luck!
