Estrogen & Progesterone

Hey

Just wanted to see how long you were all taking estrogen & progesterone pessaries?

I am currently taking Estradiol & Cyclogest, and the headache is just WOW! I have had a constant headache since I started taking Estradiol on egg collection day and I am now 7 weeks pregnant… I spoke with my doctor today and they have said it’s likely to be the Estradiol causing it over the progesterone and have asked if the dose will come down soon, but I obviously have no idea, I have to carry on until my 9 week scan but I can’t take another two weeks of the pain behind my eyes and in my head😩 the doctor can’t do anything and just told me to take paracetamol and buy cooling strips…

Has anybody else had this when taking the extra hormones? And what have you done to help relieve the pain?

Sorry for my huge ramble but I need to know it’s not just me😂

Are you 100% sure it’s the meds and not your pregnancy symptoms? I just wondered as I am now 13 weeks and had headaches almost exactly as you described, but mine were not linked to the progesterone or estrogen medication as they only started once I was a few weeks pregnant.

Apparently your nasal passages can get inflamed when pregnant. I had one day where I was hormonal and watched something that upset me. I cried hard for about half an hour and it brought the biggest front headache and I’m convinced it was linked to my nose and me sniffing so hard. I think you are more vulnerable to infections in the sinus too.

i found a dark room and cold flannel on my head were the only thing that helped. Also drinking water x

@Mrsplants hey, thanks for this! I definitely think it’s linked to the extra hormones, this has been ongoing since I started taking them on egg collection day😬x

I get headaches/migraines and mood swings on progesterone, if I dont have a successful pregnancy I can stop them but then I have the biggest crash. If I have a successful transfer I have to stay on them until 10 to 12 weeks and its pure hell, between the progesterone side effects and first trimester, I just struggle. Unfortunately if its the meds that are causing the headaches then coming off them is the only way to stop them but stopping them too soon may cause bigger problems with the pregnancy. Its a catch 22 and it really sucks. Try to just take it easy for the next 2 weeks, warm showers are a good pain relief, stay on top of panadole if you need it and try to have a good night's sleep or even a nap throughout the day if your able too. Dont let yourself get to hungry so try to eat more regular smaller meals and drink loads of fluids, you could even try electrolytes in your water. I hope you feel better soon..
