Possible OHSS and Transfer

I’ll try to cut a long story short 😂

I had my egg collection on the 25th August (was bought forward as I was responding well to meds and was worried I’d over stimulate and my ovaries were very sore), 5 day transfer on the 30th and now having my withdrawal bleed as it failed. During my transfer they mentioned my ovaries were still swollen and some follicles were full of fluid.

Tonight I have quite bad pain near my ovaries, it feels like ovulation pain. I’m not ovulating as I’ve done a test.

Everything has been fine until this afternoon when the pains came. I’m now very bloated and feeling quite sick. It didn’t even click at the time during the transfer for possible OHSS and now thinking back should that transfer even gone ahead. I feel quite sad actually as I’m now blaming myself for my speaking up at the time and it could have saved me the heartache of a failed fresh transfer. I have added it to my list of questions for the consultant at my follow up next week.

Has anyone else been through something similar? Or had pains during the withdrawal bleed?

Hi OP

Sorry to hear you went through that.

I cannot comment on whether they should have proceeded with the fresh transfer as my stims was extended by 2 days and then due to elevated progesterone on trigger day I was advised to do a freeze all.

I can however relate to the symptoms afterwards. I had my withdral bleed about a week after stopping progesterone when the FT was cancelled. That was a bit heavier and than a normal period. I am now on the cusp of starting my first natural period since egg collection (8th August) and this whole month has been filled with all sorts of twinges and odd feelings. Ive been hypersensitive to any feeling for the past 4 years so while I admit I'm an over analyser, there has been something most days. Which is not often the case for me. I’ve just felt generally sensitive and bloated all month, I experienced something I can only deacribe as ‘arse daggers’ this week. And have had a fee instances of cramps that are like radiating waves of pain across my pelvic region- I’ve also experienced a lot of lower back pain.

My periods throughout my life have never had any impact on my day to day life but I've had to take painkillers a few times over the last few weeks. So 6 weeks on, my ovaries are definitely still sore!

@AlmostTime out of curiosity what was your progesterone levels?

I’m still not 100% now, I’m still fully aware my ovaries are there and angry 😂 I’m back to testing ovulation every day to see if my body goes back to normal at some point as I’m hoping to wait a while and do a natural frozen transfer in November.

The things we willingly put ourselves through 😂

Haha I know! Willingly signed up for this- it will be worth it!

My progesterone was 1.4 on trigger day, which is on the borderline of proceeding with a fresh transfer, so we opted to ‘freeze all ‘as our embryos are thought to be stable enough to survive a freeze/ thaw and it was explained our chance of success would be higher if my womb was more aligned. Elevated progesterone too early in the cycle impacts implantation negatively according to the consultant. He said if we had an embryo unlikely to survive freeze/ thaw we could try it abs transfer, as plenty of women do go on to have a successful pregnancy. We ended up with 4 high grade so decided to be cautious and freeze. It also allowed us to pursue PGT-A testing on them all, which I didn’t really want to delay for so took it as a sign to use the opportunity and have all embryos tested.

I’ve just started Day 1 of my first natural bleed after all this, and I can already tell im going to be in for a rough ride. I have a busy weekend, so I’m going out with a bag sounding like a rattling pharmacy- just in case 🤣

Good luck with which ever clinic you choose!
