I’ve been referred for ivf after unexplained infertility by the nhs. Just wanted to know people’s experiences at this clinic? Thank you

@Riya619 hey! I went through Yorkshire fertility but had my collection/transfer at Leeds care, literally probably the best experience I could’ve asked for, everything was done exactly on time and the nurses were fantastic, especially on collection day x

That’s great, was this through the nhs? If so how long did your initial appointment take after referral?

@Riya619 yes we were through nhs, I think it was relatively quick a few weeks! Our treatment ended up being very drawn out as I needed to lose the tiniest bit of weight so my bmi was reduced and they kept changing the goalpost, it ended up being around a year before we actually started any treatments.

May be completely different for you, if they suggest losing a little weight and they give you a set time and you reach a good weight and they try to suggest trying to lose more, essentially holding off, don’t do it and just go ahead with the treatment x

Hey! We’ve also just been referred by the gynae to Leeds CARE (not unexplained we have both female and male)! Have they been in contact yet? Our gynae assured me they sent the paperwork a couple of weeks ago but CARE are saying they can’t see anything and it can take a couple of weeks… so confusing so wondered if you had heard anything yet :-) x.x

Hey, I haven’t heard anything back yet. The gynae did a blood test for Amh on the day I was referred and said that I would only be referred once the results are back which usually takes 4 weeks. She said once I’ve been referred it shouldn’t be too long. She recommended I wait 3 months and if I haven’t heard anything to then get in contact.

Ah okay no worries. I’ve technically completed all my investigations so hoping it won’t be long until I hear from them for an appointment fingers crossed! I can let you know when I hear if helpful x.x

Yes please do!! I will keep you updated with my journey with them too. Did you just call up care fertility to find if they’ve got the paperwork? I’m thinking of doing the same, just worried about not actually being referred and resulting in delayed treatment.

I didn't comment again on this thread because I replied to the OP elsewhere, but ... chase them! One of my many issues with Leeds was that we didn't chase; then they assured us we were on a waiting list for an appointment, and it was months before they admitted 'oh, we didn't hear from you again so we need to put you back on the waiting list'.

Yes I called them (after confirming with the gyane that they had sent our paperwork) and CARE said that it can take a few weeks for them to receive it. So I questioned what that meant because in my mind once the gynae presses the send button then it should be with CARE but they seem completely unable to say our paperwork is there. I think in reality what happens is it sits in an inbox and they triage you for who gets contacted first and they won’t acknowledge they’ve received it until they’ve decided where you slot in. But I hate the idea of not having confirmation that they’ve at least got the paperwork, even if they can’t do anything with it yet because there’s a queue - baffles me!

Thank you so much for this - I realllyyyy don’t want to be that person but I’m already a little bit wound up about the communication, you’ll see my other response about our paperwork literally makes no sense to me! Also if you have any other tips in general I am all ears - the reality of it all is dawning on me now and whilst I’m glad to be making progress I feel a bit stressed/sick!

I'm so sorry you feel that way. I'm really quite down on the whole fertility industry - some people are wonderful, but there is far too little care and far too much concern with money-making, and I find it really sad. And of course, as you say, you bite your tongue most of the time (or rant on here!) because no one wants to be a complainer.

I wish I had tips for Leeds but unfortunately, our experience was so negative, I changed clinics. I just had no confidence in them. But I definitely think they needed, let's say, reminders.
