PCOS/ Low Morphology

Hoping someone can share their experiences so I can try manage my expectations etc.

Started trying 11 months ago, diagnosed with PCOS earlier this year and have basically no cycle (last AF was induced as recommended by GP) - GP is referring us to the fertility clinic however when my DH went for his first SA this came back with 1% morphology - he is booked in for another test and has made changes to look to improve this. Is this looking like we would need IVF ICSI or would ovulation induction still be discussed?

Any positive stories? xx

Hi! It might depend on the rest of the sperm parameters as I have heard that morphology alone isn't always a problem. Sperm is so changeable and over the course of 3 months there could be real improvements through limited alcohol, no smoking, lots of water, zinc, ubiquinol, healthy diet, no hot baths, keeping them cool etc (do your research on supplements of course 😀) depending on your age and family size you are hoping for I would probably prefer ICSI to ovulation induction as it might give you the chance to have multiple embryos for future transfers if you are lucky 🙂 this is coming from someone who has just done a round of private IVF so I know it's a lot emotionally, physically and financially and not right for everyone.

My DH had really low morphology and motility. We were on the ICSI waitlist when I discovered that I could get pregnant by using a turkey Baster 😂 DH was going away for the weekend before I got home from work and I was ovulating so I made him leave me a deposit in a cup in the bathroom and syringed it up there! Was pregnant that month. Also got pregnant first time with this method with my second. Whether syringing them up there got the slow and deformed little buggers closer to goal I do not know but maybe worth a try.

@Waitingforday6 thank you for this!

The rest of the parameters were all within a good range by the looks of it so just the morphology issue. I'm 30 (31 next month) and DH is 33 - we would be over the moon with just 1 but of course want to use the best chance to get there, hopefully we will be eligible for 1 NHS funded round too.

How did your round go? The whole TTC journey really is something isn't it. 😓

@OldTiredMum1976 Oh wow! I have heard of the turkey baster method but never known anyone do this 😅Glad it worked for you though! My issue is my ovulation is sporadic / non - existent 🙄 x

If the other parameters are good they might well be open to ovulation induction. Fingers crossed if that's your preference 🙂 and at those ages you have time on your side I'd say (biologically speaking I know how hard the wait is!) Thank you, we are waiting for our first transfer attempt later in the year but we were very very lucky to get 11 embryos to freeze 🤞
@OldTiredMum1976 that's so cool! I had heard about it but like Em never of anyone doing it let alone success stories.

@Waitingforday6 to be honest I don’t know what my preference is 🙈 I know I just need to wait for our referral to go through but the waiting is hard 😅

oh wow 11 is amazing! Keeping everything crossed for you! 🤞 x

Hey, I have similar issues - just never ovulate. Currently have ovulated 5 times in 4 years 😅. We do now have a gorgeous toddler but it took us 3 years to get her.

@IWillBeWaxingAnOwl im so glad you have your little one now :) did you have to do any fertility help? X

@Em3009 we tried letrozole but unfortunately didn't work in my case. Were awaiting ivf and conceived out of sheer luck. I actually conceived one other time, about a year into trying (Not on any fertility care at the time) but that pregnancy ended in a loss.

Em3009 · 07/09/2025 11:57

@IWillBeWaxingAnOwl oh that’s amazing that you conceived whilst waiting on ivf 🥹 sorry for your loss on the journey though x
