Glamorous thread about vaginal gels and tablets

Hi everyone, I’m currently preparing for a frozen embryo transfer and will soon take Progynova tablets. I will take 3x a day (oral use) and 2x a day (vaginal use).

My clinic have said that the vaginal tablets must be administered 12 hours apart. Does anybody have experience with these tablets - can you put them in and carry on with your day, or do you need to sit/lie down or anything afterwards? The tablets are very small with no applicator so I don’t know if they could fall out?

Feeling a bit daunted as 12 hours apart is going to be difficult with my work commute if I need to administer them at home. I’m also a bit gutted I might not be able to have any evening plans for the foreseeable but I’m probably overreacting!

I’d also be keen to hear anyone’s experience with Crinone progesterone vaginal gel as I’ll have the same issue here as well. Thanks!

My doctor said that you insert it and lie down for around 10 minutes.
I will have a FET soon too just waiting for my period to come. We only have one embryo so really hope this works

Thanks @Coffeechocolatebooks123 - have you decided your times? I’ll have to take at 7.30am latest to get to work on time, which means I’ll have to be home by 7.30pm every night as I don’t know how I can lie down when I’m out during the day.

Best of luck with your embryo transfer, sending you all the love!

Its 20 mins 🙈 and yes having been on a similar medication it's a total pain.

Thanks so much @IWillBeWaxingAnOwl - how did you manage it with timings and evening plans?

I’ve got a few plans I’m looking forward to, really hope I don’t have to cancel. 😣

I will need to do this in a few months.

Might be a silly question….. could you put it in, then use a tampon? So if it slips down it can’t fall out?

Gosia19 · 18/08/2025 13:51

Hi @AlmostTime - I think my worry with using a tampon would be that it would just absorb the medication. I can ask my doctor though. :)

I did wonder that, but maybe better than it falling out!

I found Crinone gel very messy, I had that for NHS treatment.

After that I had treatment abroad and used Utrogestan which I think is similar to Progynova. One doctor said to lie down afterwards and another said (hopefully not TMI since this is a glamorous thread about vaginal gels etc) that the mucuous membranes in the vaginal were so absorbent that there was no need to lie down.

The 12 hours apart they said didn’t have to be to the minute, they told me within an hour. I did have to use some of them at work (and some also at appointments at the actual clinic). There can be some leakage but that could be the coating rather than the active ingredient. I would recommend plastic backed pantry liners.

For stims injections they also said around the same time each day (within an hour) and the only very strict timing is for trigger shots before egg collection.
Not so fond memories of doing injections on a plane, in hotel or bar toilets, in my work car park.

Hey everyone - making a chic comeback to my glamorous thread about vaginal gels and tablets. Had my consultation on Friday, for the Progynova tablets they recommended being quite still for 5 mins afterwards (doesn’t need to be lying down). They said if I’m out to just put it in and sit in the toilet cubicle for a couple of minutes, or go and sit back down if I’m having dinner etc. They suggested similar for the gels when I get on to them and said leakage is normal. Hope this is helpful!

Thanks also @LongerthanMrTicklesarms, I’ve found this thread so helpful!
