Hello

I have recently received NHS funding for IVF and have all bloods, scans, semen analysis in place. I have had a treatment plan but it only gives the drug names and says I’m going to be on a short protocol. The clinic have simply said that I should contact them on the first day of my period and they will get started on the treatment plan.

does this mean that I will have scan a few days after that? Will I be given the medication at that appointment?!

any experiences welcomed as I’m not quite sure what they mean and whether it’s all go from that point!

TIA

I was private but did short protocol. I had to get my meds beforehand but i assume as you're nhs then they will perhaps give them to you at your appointment.
Short protocol for me was call on the day of period starting which fell on a Friday so they had me in for a scan that afternoon. Everything was fine so I started stims on day 2 (usually day 2 or 3 for most people)
I was on these for 10 days, but this can be longer depending how you respond. I then had my trigger shot and egg collection is always 36 hours after trigger shot

I’ve had a couple of rounds and always had meds delivered in advance to my house. I would just call them and ask. Forums like this can be so helpful but also don’t by shy about asking questions and advocating for yourself throughout. It can be helpful to know what’s happening and why. I think sometimes ivf can be a bit one-size-fits-all initially so don’t be afraid to ask why they’re doing xyz and why that’s a good option for you.

You’d normally have a baseline scan at the start to see how everything looks uterus, follicles etc. before getting started. Most people will start their stimulation meds (to grow multiple follicles) between days 1-3.

best of luck with your next steps!
