What was your timeline from first NHS fertility appointment?

We’ve got our first appointment coming up next month.

Ive had hormones tests and TV ultrasound, DH has had 2 semen analysis pre referral.
Did they offer any other tests like hsg/hycosy at first appt? I guess next steps depends on your test results but what was the timeline from there? I think we’re unexplained other than DH poor morphology, my progesterone a bit low.

obviously I know it will vary area to area! But just interested what tends to happen next ☺️

Hi OP, after all the initial tests I had a hycosy which I think was within a month. Then follow up for that was within a couple of weeks. I was referred to start IVF treatment last week and my first appointment is next week! So no waiting list (I am in the southwest)

From what I can remember, first NHS appointment was November 2022 and my first round of IVF was Feb 2024, that was from first doctors to hospital referral to fertility clinic! Good luck x

That’s quite the wait!

It was, like I say that was from first GP appointment, then had the referral to the hospital then to the clinic! I'm Greater Manchester based

Hi, first appt with GP was September 24, due to start the first treatment in September this year!

We’ve been waiting 2 years so far for our NHS test… they F’ed up royally and we are complaining so went private instead. the NHS do wonderful things but in terms of fertility, I have nothing good to say about them

If your husband has poor morphology you might want to get him checked for a varicocele and sperm dna fragmentation. If he has one deemed clinically significant it could be worth considering embolisation to improve your ivf outcome (or even conceive spontaneously if this was indeed the explanation of the unexplained). Just something I find myself wanting to share based on our experience. I wish his varicocele had been taken seriously and treated before doing ivf. That said I am currently verrrrrrry early pregnant from ivf and obviously so thankful for that. It is just icky to feel like I might have avoided putting my body through ivf had he had a relatively minor procedure to fix a problem on his side.

Gosh 2 years is such a long wait. That’s terrible.
i am not surprised you went private! I think waiting even a year is too long.

It is! It’s such a time sensitive thing aswell, I can’t afford time wise to be waiting this long!

That’s exactly how I feel! I’ve booked a GP appt for 2nd Sept now to discuss and hopefully I get put on a waiting list, but my partner and I have discussed the possibility of going private too.

Thanks all - consultant recommended starting with letrozole to improve ovulation.
I’ve definitely thought about dna frag and if no joy in next few cycles think we’ll look into that!
