Period after IVF

Hi everyone,

When did people get their periods after IVF?

I finished a frozen round in May. Egg collection was 26th May and got my period after that on 6th June which was bang on time for me. I am awaiting a second round of IVF on this next cycle and my period was due on 3rd but still nothing. Not even a hint of it. I’m crabby, but that’s the height of it. Normally I would be having cramps and other symptoms. It’s driving me crazy as I have no idea when my appointments and injections etc will start when I am usually like clockwork.

I can’t seem to find anything online as everything talks about when you get your period after egg collection and not the first complete cycle post, if you get me.

I should add that a pregnancy test was negative

Hello! Just wanted to message to say I'm in a similar boat where I had a frozen cycle, then a withdrawal bleed came pretty quickly afterwards but was like a normal period and now I'm waiting for my next period to start the transfer cycle, but I assume it might not come when I expect it to. Makes it hard to manage work around future appointments because they're not aware I'm going through IVF.

Can I ask what came of your period?

Following with interest!

I’ve had the bleed after egg collection, started on day 28. But now counting down to consultant appointment next week and wondering if there is going to be time between that appointment and my actual period starting to organise whatever he prescribes.

Hopefully that the PGT-A results report some of our embryos are euploid, and we start a frozen transfer next month. But I’m feeling quite negative, like we’ll have zero and have to do another egg collection, but won’t have time to organise it all so I’ll have to wait another month to get that started.

A few weeks on and I am all booked to do FET next cycle.

Currently at the tail end of natural ovulation in the first cycle since egg collection in August.

Very tender, loads of twinges etc so I assume my ovaries are still feeling a bit battered. Haven’t taken any fertility medication this cycle.

My clinic prescribed me provera to bring on my period to start IVF last year, I'd just had a chemical so unsure if it was because of that and my cycle being a bit all over the place, but I think you can take it for bringing on a bleed in general, worth an ask?

Leoladyttc1 · 06/09/2025 13:18

Interesting @Orangewillow! Was that because your cycle ended up being really long? I'm currently at 4 and a half weeks since the start of my previous cycle which is about 5-7 days longer than usual, nothing too unusual after egg collection and a withdrawal bleed id imagine...

Orangewillow · 06/09/2025 14:24

Yeah that was the idea, I usually have short cycles but because of the chemical it was just to bring on my period and get an idea of the time frame to crack on with IVF

My first real period was delayed too. I had the withdrawal bleed right on schedule as you'd expect but then my first real period was a week late and I could tell it took me longer to ovulate that cycle which I guess makes sense if everything is getting back to baseline.

Just to update i’ve finally reached cycle day 1 with a natural AF after the withdrawal bleed following egg collection in August.

31 days of waiting in total. Lots of tugs, pulls and twinges throughout the month. Almost solid bloating the past week, couldnt wear trousers. I’ve just experienced 2-3 days of light spotting and pretty bad back pain. I couldn’t bend down to hang washing out, also unable to get out of a chair without using my arms without discomfort sort of thing. It came on pretty quickly as I attended pilates classes on Monday and Wednesday without any issues!

Now she is here the back pain has eased a bit, but I can tell from the volume I’m going to be in for a rough ride!

Sorry everyone, I had no idea this thread had responses now! Apologies to keep you waiting.

I had my period on day 34 of cycle, which was about a week late for me. I then went on to do another IVF cycle and have just had my first full natural cycle following that and period came on day 37, so very late. Around ten days. Which is apparently all normal, but it was just very frustrating both times as I felt I was hoping that maybe I had a surprise natural miracle pregancy each time and the late periods were giving me false hope even though I knew it wasn’t very possible.

hope everyone is going okay? @AlmostTime hope you are feeling my bit less negative? I can relate to that feeling wholeheartedly. It’s a rough ride.

I can’t actually remember when I finish my second cycle of IVF as it has all merged into one now, but I suspect it was early August and I am only just now feeling normal. I didn’t bloat much during the treatment but I felt huge for ages later. I think I was longer term a bit constipated and maybe a bit of water retention after all the hormones. But I feel like me again, finally! After my first natural period both times was when I started to feel normal physically.

However, I am just about to start a medicated cycle for a FET so that’s all going to go out the window soon. Aw well.
