IVF medication in the UK

Hi all,

Me and my partner have been with a private clinic in Alicante, Spain, and are about to try again for a baby with their assistance. In the run up to this, we need a single drug which they will provide a prescription for.

The question I have is how do we obtain this, as no one is accepting a prescription from Spain within the UK. We have tried the fertility medicine centre website, and the quote they gave for us was more expensive than flying to Spain to collect it ourselves!

We are based in Belfast, and we need the medication within the next 14 days. We are beginning to despair at this point with the unnecessary stress that this causes. Would anyone want any advice at all that could help us?

Hey, did you try Hannawins? There’s also meant to be Smyths or McCormacks in Dundalk? Is your script translated into English?

Or clear pharmacy on Lisburn road?

Also are you in the IVF support group NI on Facebook? There are folks there that have been to Alicante and will be able to give you better advice x

Hi, you can try Zen pharmacy in London. They accept Spanish prescriptions when emailed to them directly by the clinic. They deliver too, though the charge might be higher especially as you are in Belfast.

You can initially send them the prescription through their web form or direct email to get a quote. If you decide to proceed then just ask your clinic to email them the prescription. I have done it before and they are quick to respond.

Another option is ASDA, they also accept Spanish prescriptions but they require a hard copy directly from the clinic. They can order based on the email from the clinic but they won't dispense until they have received the hard copy by post.

Oh wow thank you all for the kind advice. I will definitely look into any of those clinics recommended.

Also Confused that's a good shout, but myself and my partner do no have social media accounts. But it's good to know there are options, thank you all so much ☺️

I’ve messaged to see if one of the girls can give advice and will share with you. I think if I were you, I would start with Hannawins in Ballynahinch. The pharmacist John is a legend and will do everything he can to help/advise you so that you can start on time x

I just spoke to the girl and she said that she also used Hannawins.she said you do need the original script to be sent from Spain which took about a week. She was with IVF life and said that they partner with a pharmacy in London and you could pay to get it sent by courier. Call John in the am x
