Confused by baseline scan

Can someone help me understand the purpose of a baseline scan on an FET?

I have been told that it's to ensure the lining is thin, but that they test in first three days of cycle. It seems counterintuitive as surely that's when the lining is at its thickest?

My baseline scans have always taken place when my period is finished, to ensure that the lining has been completely shed.

Hi, the baseline scan is usually done in the first 3 days of your cycle to primarily check 2 things. As pp said, first is to check the previous month’s lining has been shed, the new month’s lining will then thicken, with it being at its thickest about 5 days post ovulation (when they transfer the embryo back). Secondly is to check you don’t have any cysts in your ovaries from previous follicles as the IVF meds could cause a cyst to grow on hyperdrive rather than being dissolved by your body naturally as it usually would.

good luck!

Thanks for the responses. My concern is that on day 1/2/3 of my cycle my lining will not have shed, because that is the process that is happening with period/bleed and its only the start of that.
