Unable to access ovaries at ER

Hi all,

we went in for egg collection this morning and unfortunately they could not access the ovaries due to the bowel being in the way and also because I have adhesions from previous surgeries.

Previously they couldn’t access one of them, today it was both, which is obviously heartbreaking.

I don’t think we will go for another round of IVF so I’m just wondering if anyone has gone through anything like this? We have previously received naturally but now I’m 40 and my ovarian reserve is low. Do we have any other options, is it an option to try and conceive naturally but with the help of some drugs, like is that even a thing? While my reserve is low, I responded well to the meds, and the follicles were growing beautifully, the lining was perfect and the hormone levels were good for a fresh transfer next week. We will be meeting the clinic next week but I’d like to have some idea about what we could do before I speak to them.

The clinic will probably suggest using a donor egg which is not something we want to do.

Thanks you x

How disappointing. Do try naturally - low reserve doesn't matter if you're ovulating each month.

Is there anything they can do to reposition your ovaries?

Thank you for your response. Surgery has been suggested to remove the adhesions but if I’m being honest, I’m not sure if it’s something I want to do. I’ve had 3 major abdominal/pelvic surgeries and mentally I don’t think I can face another one.

I am ovulating every month, just that the reserve is low. We’ve a bit of a male factor issue as well (quality wise) so overall things are looking fairly bleak.

There is a keyhole abdominal surgery you can have done to collect eggs if the traditional egg collection way cant be done. This can be option to still use your own eggs.
