Ureaplasma - TTC/treatment experiences?

Wisteria25 · 15/05/2025 10:19

I did a vaginal Microbiome test with day that came back high for ureaplasma which I understand can affect fertility and pregnancy. Over 1 year TTC and one chemical pregnancy. I’ve been taking probiotics and am going to retest. Fertility doc said we may both need antibiotics if it’s still high with the retest.

has anyone had this - what was your experience, how was it treated and did it work? I’ve read mixed about it being really hard to get rid of, and long antibiotic treatments, but elsewhere that you can just do a week/10 days of treatment and abstinence and that’s it. Worried it’s going to be a big barrier/delay to conceiving

Hey! We are in a very similar position, we are nearly 2 year TTC our second after a straightforward conception with our first (have also had two failed FETs).
We have ended up speaking to an independent fertility specialist to help guide us on where to go next. I have previously done a Daye microbiome test and its come back both time with Ureaplasma among other issues, the fertility specialist felt that the Ureaplasma is likely the biggest issue. On her recommendation we have just done a more indepth test and my Husband will have his semenal microbiome done too. We will then be guided on treatment but expecting antibiotics for us both and then a big push to re-balance with probiotics. She felt it could be hindering not only our attempts at Natural conception, but also the embryo transfers (I guess we will never know but I am keen to try and do what we can!)
There are some great podcasts out there which help explain it all- worth a listen!

Thank you for replying, and sorry you’re also struggling.

Yes it was podcasts that I’d heard about it on, and also did the daye test. Which have you listened to, I’d heard on Don’t Tell Me to Relax and the Worst Girl Gang Ever, wondering if there’s more I can learn still. I didn’t even know it was a thing a few months ago!

I’m worried that it might be antibiotics and a longer pause on TTC, but will have to wait and see. I read that certain strains of bacteria would help and found a probiotic that should help - but realise as only I’m taking it not my partner, we probably will end up needing antibiotics.

where did you have the more advanced test, was it Invivo? I’ve just started acupuncture and she mentioned them

I also listened to the fertility suite one- they had Screen Me, which is the test my husband has been recommended to do and then I have just done Invivo so waiting on results. Given the journey weve been on (and aside from lower AMH for my age no other big reason why we aren't concieving), I feel that the antibiotic/probiotic route was the best one- I have religiously been taking probiotics/eating well for 18months plus and it seems that hasn't been enough (perhaps has helped mask any symptoms) so keen to try and wipe it out and start again!
If trying naturally I understand treating your partner too is as important as treating yourself?

Hi, I also had ureaplasma. I asked a Spanish consultant during a webinar what I should do and his recommendation was either -

14 days of Doxycycline or
1 gram Azithromycin (single shot)

I had a hysteroscopy to investigate polyp around that time and they gave me 1 gram Azithromycin (single shot) as part of that to prevent infections. It cleared my ureaplasma as well.

Since then I changed my probiotics to Fem Dophilus Advanced and VagiBiom. My latest Daye result came in last week, it's the best it's ever been and no ureaplasma.

All the best 🍀

Yeah that makes total sense about partner too. I’ve literally just done a Daye retest, i highly suspect it’ll come back still the same, so will likely have antibiotics for both of us

Oh wow that’s great! And not as long on antibiotics as I’d imagined. Was your partner treated too?

I’m worried about it adding delay onto TTC, but equally if it’s a barrier then i want to get it sorted asap

Hi @Wisteria25 , no my partner was not treated for ureaplasma. And I totally agree that you should sort it out even if it delays things a little

Ok that’s interesting so don’t necessarily need to do both.

I’m just waiting on the retest back, and then hopefully antibiotics 🤞🏻
