I'm sorry to hear that. IVF feels like such a roll of the dice sometimes and I understand that the waiting is excruciating. I can't remember exact numbers for mine but I think the biggest drop off is between days 3 and 5. Just looked it up and have pasted an image below.

Several factors could be at play though and it might warrant more tests such as sperm fragmentation/quality or a change in protocol depending on your response to stims. Did you do ICSI? Your age will sadly play a part as well.

Im just so sad

I have pcos and blocked tubes and miscarriage history.

Issues are more my side than my partners

IVF is so hard, sending a massive hug. Is this your first egg retrieval?

I've just updated the April thread with this round's results which have been the best yet in terms of fertilisation. But previous rounds were:

A) 10 eggs collected, 9 mature, 4 fertilised by day one, 2 embryos by day 5
B) 10 eggs collected, 9 mature, 6 fertilised by day one, 2 embryos by day 5
C) 20 eggs collected, 16 mature, 0 fertilised by day one

Seeing the drop off and having no control over any of it is just awful.

In terms of drop off rates, chat gpt suggests that the average is 70-80% to fertilise by day one with around 30-50% of the fertilised eggs (not the number collected) making it to day 5. My clinic had told me they have an average of 50-70% fertilisation rate (which seems a broad spectrum!) and that an average of 40-50% of those fertilised make it to day 5 and then an average of 45-50% returning as normal from PGTA testing.

I think it is so easy to get caught up in statistics (I know I do). But for example, I only got 6 eggs, only 3 fertilised but all three made it to day 5 and i had spent the whole five days convincing myself the worst would happen. I think if you speak to 10 different people on here, you would get 10 different experiences. So my point i guess, is you really never know how it will turn out, even if it looks/feels like bad news, it might suprise you. Sending all the luck in the world. X
