Karyotype for reccurent pregnancy loss

Hello everyone,

I have had 2 missed miscarriages following 2 fresh cycles of IVFs of untested embryos. I don’t qualify for testing under the NHS yet as they required 3 miscarriages.

I have been looking at clinics in Prague, and one of them is recommending karyotypes for my partner and I (in addition to thrombophilia, immunology testing, and PGT-A).

These tests are very expensive (500€ per person), so I am wondering if these are really justified in our situation, as we don’t have any know genetic issues in our families.

Has anyone done karyotyping for recurrent pregnancy loss in IVF?

Not through IVF but I did have it on the NHS after recurrent loss (3 missed miscarriages, now 4). Turns out I have not one but 2 chromosome abnormalities, so it was worth it for me. No history of any issues in my family either.

@Moosey898 thank you for sharing your experience and sorry to hear about your miscarriages, been through 2 of them was awful so I can’t imagine what it must been like going through 4! You are a true warrior!

I think I will go for it despite the high cost as it could give us more information on why I am miscarrying.

I am a hypochondriac so one of my worry is that they will find some type of mutation for me or my husband that we don’t know about and that could also have an impact on our lives!

@YellowTack I can completely understand your worry. If it helps, when I spoke to my genetic counsellor she said the vast majority of people who do find out they have a genetic abnormality would never have found out if it weren't for fertility issues, so the chance of having something that would impact you is slim. I found that reassuring.

Best of luck with it all - if you want someone to chat to if anything does come of it, you know where I am 😊
