Hi guys!

we are starting ivf next month abroad and have had the stims meds quote in, just wondering if anyone has any current prices for private prescriptions of the meds from supermarkets etc?

i don’t want to pay for the private prescription from our clinic if the price isn’t going to be cheaper, so if anyone has brought recently themselves privately I’d appreciate any help before I potentially throw money away on a prescription.

this is what we have been prescribed and the cost quoted

thank you in advance

Cetrotide EU RX 0.25mg Pwd & Sol For Inj (1) x6
£216

Ovitrelle EU RX Pre-filled Syringe (1) x1 £39

Folic Acid 5mg tabs (28) x1 £2.50

Meriofert 150iu pow/inj (x15) £616.18

Gonal F Pen 900iu (1) x3 £654.81

1,528.49

All i know is that my friend told me ( 5 x private ivf )
That she found Asda cheapest pharmacy

I have ordered online from India best price I have ever found, if you want them from the UK stork and Asda were the cheapest some asdas will take an overseas prescription some won't it's a minefield

FancyGoose · 11/04/2025 08:18

I got a quite from Asda but they were actually more expensive than my clinic for everything except Fyremadel which was a fair bit cheaper through Asda. However, Asda was also out of stock for loads of things we needed so we'd have had to find another supplier or order those through the clinic anyway. In the end decided to go through the clinic for ease (delivered to door, had everything in stock, comes with needles and sharp bin, no waiting for them to order bits in like Asda) and given there wasn't much in it price wise. I was also a bit suspicious as to whether they'd quoted the fyremadel correctly given everything else was significantly more expensive except that one item which was significantly cheaper. Doesn't hurt to get a quote though, probably depends on the meds you've been prescribed.

Thank you for all your replies…. We have been to check both Boots and Asda today,,,, ironically Asda were the most expensive! At over £2,200! Boots came in nearly £1000 cheaper than them…. Make that one make sense 🙈

Correction: Asda price was £2330.
boots £1269 so obvious which one we will go with.

just in case anyone else is looking for cheaper than what the clinic charges and hasn’t considered Boots, it’s worth checking your med prices

Hey, anyone know the cheapest place to get Bemfola in the UK? I’ve been prescribed 350iu x 13 days. Will be going through IVF in Ireland.

Approached:

The fertility medication centre (who passed me to fertility IVF) - they quoted me for everything except Bemfola, which they said was out of stock.
Stork - they quoted me for everything except Bemfola, which they said they cannot supply.
The Fertility Pharmacy - awaiting quote.
Fertility2U - awaiting quote.
Asda - awaiting quote.
Boots - awaiting quote.

Just wondering if I’ve missed any out. Thank you :)

Just to chip in incase it helps anyone in the future. My prescription was:

Progynova 2mg x 63 tablets
Menopur 350iu x 13 days (4 x 1200iu vials)
Cetrotide 0.25mg x 8 days
Ovitrelle 250mcg x 1
Utrogestran 200mg x 120
Buserelin 5.5ml x 1

Stork were the cheapest (£1630) and offered free next day cool box delivery. I also contacted the following: Fertility2U (£1,722), Boots (£2,553), Asda (£1,600-1,700 wouldn’t give exact amount without putting the order through), The Fertility Pharmacy (£2,257).

Hi, do you contact Stork yourself or through clinic?

GamerGirl09 · 28/07/2025 16:48

@estebancolberto I did it myself :) think I filled form in online on their website x

Hey @GamerGirl09 which one was cheaper for Bemfola in the end?

I brought it from Spain but I think I accidentally froze it so will need to source it in the UK now 😭

Hey, if you read my messages further down, I got Menapur in the end for stims. I couldn’t source Bemfola anywhere! Sorry, not too helpful. Good luck

I used Stork via the clinic for the medication that wasn't covered by my NHS funding as to issue a prescription my clinic charges a £250 admin fee! While I had researched and found Boots was the cheapest, £9.99 for a private prescription fee in the end for the cost price, even with the £50 delivery fee Stork was best value.

I found the Stork service very good, and they were always able to fulfil the prescription which is one less thing to worry about. The cost is important, but if it’s a small margin there is a lot to be said for being able to click to arrange a delivery slot and know it will all turn up. When you’re in the middle of a cycle you really don't want to be searching around for additional supplies.
Cyclogest supply chain seems to be regularly a challenge and supplemented with Ultrogestan.
