IVF and Zika

Hi,

Looking for some advice with the following from people who understand my desperation to have a baby after a long painful few years.

Myself and my BF were referred to the IVF clinic, told it could be a long wait.

Months and months ago we booked a trip to Mexico. I know...we didn't really think it through/do the research.

And of course...they have collided at the same time!!

We leave for Mexico in a week and our initial consultation is the week after we get back.

We are being asked to sign a form to say we haven't been to any countries with a zika virus risk in the last three months...unfortunately Mexico is one.

Are we honest with the IVF clinic and see if they will let us postpone? Will we lose our funding?

Do we lie and say we haven't been away? My goggle research says that the risk of zika is low and there hasn't been a confirmed case in the area we are travelling to for years.

The forms also ask for our passport number? If we lie, could they check? Will we lose our funding?

As you can probably tell, my mind is spiralling and I need someone rational to help!!

I don't think they can/will check, but don't you think that the risk of having a baby conceived with zika is worth it? If either of you are infected then don't forget that could affect all your embryos in that cycle and for a number of months after so it might a waste. Esp if you're only getting one cycle paid for (?)

I think you either cancel the trip (if possible, change to another destination, maybe?) or just be honest .I don't think you'd lose funding - maybe just had to delay IVF for 3-6 months upon your return (I can't remember the dates).

My IVF clinic still asks/checks re Zika too

Hi there,
If it is only first consultation the treatment may not even happen so quickly I suppose i.e many tests scans etc to go through? Perhaps just be honest and say you’ve been to mexico and maybe they can schedule/postpone for treatment to happen st the right time?
