Spotting while on progesterone - any positive outcomes?

hi all

pregnant for the 4th time in 20months, 2 ectopics and a MMC @ 8 weeks previously.

First round and fresh transfer in February - successful and currently 6+5 and taking progesterone x2 daily.

I had a tiny bit of red blood in my CM on the 4th March, a few drops of red spotting on 16th March then quite abit of pinky CM 22nd with some more red streaks in, stopped after a few wipes and no more since.
I’ve had a viability scan on Thursday (20th) and all measuring fine with heartbeat. They couldn’t find anything to explain bleeding.

Has anyone else experienced spotting whilst on progesterone? I’m concerned that I’m going to MC again and the progesterone is just holding off a bigger bleed. All previous loses have started with blood streaked CM so this is hard not to worry about, despite scan last week. Can’t be vaginal irritation as taking progesterone rectally. Nothing to explain bleeding seen at last scan.

Any positive experience spotting even whilst on progesterone would be much welcomed.

I know how hard it is too not worry but try to just get through each stage one step at a time. The spotting has stopped now did you say? So it could have just been normal early pregnancy spotting which can occur because the uterus stretches and can release small amounts of blood, also if your progesterone is high enough this can also cause spotting you don't have to take it vaginally for this to happen, it can be a side effect of taking progesterone. The positive ultrasound is a great start. You can always have a reassurance scan just to keep sane. I have spotted with majority of my healthy pregnancies some were for unknown reasons and others were due to a haematoma. Don't count yourself out yet but unfortunately it really is just a wait and see what happens type of situation. Just try to stay positive and be hopeful that things are progressing as they should.

@Miraclemuma03 yes it’s been pretty much just a wipe on each occasion (3) which stopped straight away.
With my MC it did this then nothing for weeks so guess just worried about that possibility repeating itself - and assumed being on progesterone would stop any bleeding!

At my scan she said because I had a fresh transfer my body was already making lots of progesterone + the extra I was taking so can’t see it being a deficiency of that. Couldn’t see any other reason for bleeding but we had a heartbeat so they were happy.

Trying to take it day at a time and remain hopeful as seeing lots of people spotting and all ok.

@Xwx1010 it is really hard to stay positive when you have experienced losses. Just try to concentrate on the positives which is right now your pregnant and that's worth celebrating .

Hi OP, totally understand the worry, I had this and then had a MMC at 8+5 BUT I had this again with my last transfer and I’m now almost 36 weeks with that little embryo. These were both FETs with medicated cycle so lots of progesterone support. I will never know why I spotted earlier on but seems to have had no impact.

This last time, as I was worried, I got a progesterone blood test through Ultrasound Direct (cheaper than my clinic) which showed I had pretty high levels. So you could always do something like that if it would help your anxiety.

good luck!

@Zypig thanks so much that’s really reassuring. Bleeding can really only go one of two ways and it’s just impossible to know!

Trying to stay positive given the fact I had 2 lots of bleeding before the scan and eve thing was fine, so bleeding after doesn’t mean it’s all over. Actually could have been the scan itself caused irritation.

I am surprised my clinic haven’t done any bloods to check hormones etc, as my iron is often low and my thyroid was not in range this time last year. I had though about a private test and I’ve actually called my gp surgery first to see if they’ll do it but sounds unlikely.. might do the full blood count one as I think it would cover everything.. will look into it!
thank you and huge congratulations on 36 weeks!

What was the outcome of this? I’m currently on 200mg of progesterone and still spotting. I’m 6 weeks today and have a scan next Wednesday.
