Hi All,

anyone trying for a second child after 1st one had thru ivf? My DD is nearly 2.5yr an old I’m now turning 41 in a couple months and have tried since she was 6 months. Naturally, 1 failed high dose ivf when she was 1yrs but had just stopped breast feeding and a failed mild dose ivf-turned- IUI cycle this month. In each of the three times after the medication I still am only getting 1 egg to retrieve or work with. Maybe because wfh and being sedentary for last 5 yrs. taking procieve max and vit d. what do they mean when they say chance increases with more ivf cycles you do??? And also had myself terrified about altering my body beyond repair and causing a killer disease in my long term health after doing it 3 times and thinking of going another however many times.

I just feel at a loss and way too scared to dream that I could have the same luck twice.

plan now is to go on holiday and try again in couple months for ivf/icsi.

any cycle buddies? Stories? Or just solidarity, all welcome 🤗 x

Hello!

I would love to join you!

Im in a similar situation. I have a 4yr old from IVF (5 rounds/ various transfers/ CPs /MMC - and finally miracle daughter).

Im also 41 and have only just started thinking about no. 2 but I’m now annoyed with myself that we didn’t start 2 yrs ago. Just had a failed (CP) FET. One embryo left (but I’ve not got much hope for that). Then I’m thinking I will do 3 rounds IVF and see where we get to.

I’m sorry to hear about your failed cycles. It’s so tough. For me after this failed FET it’s just started to sync in how lucky I was (and how long it took) to get one. I just had two weeks of dreaming with a chem preg and then it all came to an abrupt end.

Not sure I’m ready for all of this again. I’d forgotten the mad highs and lows and how much physical and mental time it takes up.

Your holiday sounds like a great idea. I’m planning my next transfer in April, then if that fails might start IVF in June. 😬😬

x

ps I think re the ‘chances increase thing’, I think really all it means is that it’s a numbers game, and the more rounds your do, the more chances you have of it working?? Plus I guess tweaks to meds between each cycle can help?!

Hey @Evi83

so lovely of you to join but I’m so sorry to hear of your cp. how dreadful. ❤️ i do feel like this ttc rollercoaster can give a sort of temporary madness like drive you out of your mind - it’s so hard!!! It’s weird isn’t it like you feel resigned to thinking maybe it’ll never happen but you have to push on anyway to have no regrets. And I work for NHSE so just found out will probs get made redundant. And will prob end up using that money to keep trying for a baby. Especially at this age when you’re like well I don’t have too long to dwell must dust off and try clear my mind to try again whilst I can, but then don’t wanna push your body too hard…..so tough. Trying to gain mental clarity to navigate next steps can be tricky but I like your plan.
please do keep me posted on your April transfer and try and love on yourself hard til then.
I’ve been pigging out eating all the junk I can to commiserate, but have decided I’m gonna actually try more seriously again naturally and look after my eggs like thru cycle syncing……sending you lots of love at this time and I pray we get success soon x

It 100% gives you temporary madness. One minute you're talking about babynames and then next you're like, 'of course I'm never going to have another baby'!
I'm sorry to hear baout your likely redundancy, not what you need on top of everything, but with any luck it will give you a bit of extra cash for future IVF. I haven't even thought about money - I think i'm just burying my head in the sand / wishful thinking on that count!
I have also been eating badly. It didn't really matter for FETs, because i think 80% of this is about egg / embryo quality, but now I'm thinking IVF in a few months I need to get back on the case and start moving more, and eating better.... to try and get my few remaining wisened old eggs in a better state!
I think because of my age, I've decided I'm just going to hit it hard an go back to back. Probably a bit mad, but I'm worried I don't have much time left. Also, I don't really want to drag it out. I want to give it a shot (no regrets) over the next year / 18 months.
What is cycle syncing? (Is that just working out roughly when you ovulate and making sure you dtd at the right time?). I've not been on any contraception since my daughter was born, and have been keeping an eye on my cycle and roughly having sex at the right times, but probably not as often as we should (because - child!).
Sending you lots of luck too. Keep me updated on your progress. I'm about to call the clinic and book in a scan / aptment for the end of this cycle.
x
p.s. my only thought on being able to get pregnant / stay pregnant/ have a healthy baby, is that.... as lucky as we were with out existing children, the point is we know that our bodies CAN do it.... so hopefully that is something!

Ah sorry for delayed response still trying to pick myself up and get back in the swing after the last few weeks where I put myself on bed rest to help the iui…. Anywaaaay. Totally hear you about just putting blinkers on and going for it because of time. As long as it feels safe for your body I say go for it. And that’s the bit I’m struggling to measure. But I get some reassurance doing these natural modified cycles as they are such low dose and for shorter time.

cycle syncing is basically living according to what menstrual phase you are in, and adjusting food exercise and general life to the energy levels you will be at. Sort of like following your bodies natural rhythm - have a google seems interesting. I’m just doing basic things like gum first couple of weeks after period then more gentle movement in last two weeks. Hopefully it will also help blood flow. Also gonna try pre seed, keep on with procieve max or maybe go back to pregnacare and keeping warmer!

you're 100% right - our bodies CAN and HAVE done this before so we know they can do it again!!!!
