Prednisolone success stories

We have had multiple miscarriages (10) and are about to start our 6th IVF round. Have been sent our protocol but another doctor has suggested taking 25mg of Prednisolone. I have previously had 5mg on one of the cycles although still ended in miscarriage. I am sceptical of taking a higher dose due to the risks and side effects. I have been tested for the NK cells (on the NHS and privately and both have come back negative). Do I go with the dose?
many thanks

Can't say too much for success just yet but currently on 20mg pred and I'm 7+4. Around the 7/8 week mark is when I normally miscarry so we'll see. But in my first pregnancy, and only successful one, due to a flare up of my Crohn's I was I was actually on pred my whole pregnancy, started on IV steroids then reduced to 20 and stayed on it. I even had surgery and my son is completely fine and healthy 🙌🏻 so in my opinion I'd go for it, if there's a chance it could help you should take it. 5mg is too low a dose imo

@Daniki Thank you for your response. It’s good to hear that it’s worked for you and that you were on it for longer and all was ok. Wishing you all the best for this pregnancy.

@ClaireP22 how are you getting on?? I was also diagnosed with High activated NK cells when testing in a pregnancy state. I had 1 MMC and 2 chemicals before being diagnosed with this. I then was put onto prednisolone and progesterone along with infusions. I am now 15 weeks pregnant xxxx

@Meg310532 Thank you for your message. I am currently in the TWW and find out at the end of this week if it’s worked. I’m currently taking 25 mg of Prednisolone from Embryo Transfer so just in the waiting game at the moment so feeling fairly anxious.
Glad to hear that Prednisolone worked for you too. Gives me hope and reassurance that I’ve done the right thing.
congratulations on your pregnancy. Xxx

Hiya @ClaireP22 yep pred definitely does both of those things, you're meant to get your blood pressure monitored with the GP and also carry around one of those 'I'm taking steroids' cards in case of emergencies. Pred definitely disrupted my sleep and the heart racing is a pretty common side effect. Do you take it first thing in the morning? I've taken it for two transfers and also taken it for asthma flares x

ClaireP22 · 16/04/2025 20:50

@browneyedgirl626 Yep, I’ve got a blue steroid card that I carry round with me too. I actually now think it’s because of my blood sugars triggering symptoms and not necessarily high blood pressure. I feel I get shaky and today I experienced seeing flashing stars. Phoned my IVF clinic who have told me to wean off the Prednisolone to look after myself. I know Prednisolone can be linked to Diabetes so it’s worth knowing the risks. Just wanted to see if anyone else had something similar as it can be pretty scary. Thanks for replying. X
