Hi all

Those of you going through or having been through ivf -

Were you lucky to have a fertility friendly / ivf friendly Employer ?

Some Employers seem way more ivf friendly than others -

Perhaps we could share some here ?

It really depends if they have a policy. Mine don’t because they don’t employ enough people for one but to be honest I think it worked in my favour. They let me go for as many appointments as I need and I worked from home a little as well. I was very honest with my line manager and HR as I think it was helpful for them to know to so that they understood if I couldn’t be in or my mind was elsewhere etc. I did get signed off for 4 weeks as well due to stress but obviously with that coming from the doctor they didn’t really have a choice in the matter. Of course it also depends where your clinic is in relation to work. We had lots of early morning appointments which were only about 20 mins long so going to work was v doable. The main things are egg collection and transfer and taking the day after transfer is probably a good idea. I think places with policies say stuff about time off for appointments but I don’t know as we didn’t have one.

Try work for an American company. They often have health insurance for their UK employees with fertility benefits (paid IVF, egg freezing) etc.

I work for a Local Authority and they/ my line manager have been amazing. I work in a very male department, so was a bit worried about it. But I’m so glad I told my line manager what was going on. I was given time off for appointments and he monitored my work load to make sure I wasn’t stressed. He’d even tell me to log off at 5pm. However, I’ve worked at other LA’s with different line managers who wouldn’t have been so kind. I think it’s partly luck of the draw.

Well known American finance company. £50k lifetime allowance towards fertility treatment for you or your partner, no questions asked. Actually an excellent benefit and makes me think better of them than I did.
