Ivf meds whilst out and about

Hello, we are to start ivf cycle next month. Havent been given our treatment plan yet so dont know exactly what meds/ method but i know there will be some sort of evening injection.

I am due to go to a concert with some friends about an hour away from home from about 5pm - 10pm so i assume that means i will be due to do one of my injections when i am there.

How would that work?? Do ivf meds need to be kept in fridge so would it even be okay to take them out of the fridge for that long etc? I am just worrying in advance of it all haha

Mine didn't need to be kept in fridge but I think it depends what time you have?

I don't think I would have been able to do the injections out of the house. It was quite faffy because you had to mix the injections yourself and I always used an ice pack from the freezer.

First round I did them at 7pm. Second time I did them at 10:30 just before I went to be. Found 10:30 a much easier time as I was always home then (and would just early if I was out)

Hi,
It is doable - I have done one jab while out for a meal (I went into the disabled toilet so I had more space and access to a sink to wash my hands) and one in my car. Both of these were down regulation meds that didn't need refrigerating so I just drew up the dose in a syringe and recapped it. I then took the prefilled syringe in a ziplock bag with an alcohol wipe.
I am at a friends birthday meal on saturday and will need to do my stims when out at the restaurant - I have one that needs to be refrigerated and one that needs the liquid and powder mixing before administering. I plan to put the refrigerated one in a small cool bag with an icepack and will take all the other bits I need in a ziplock bag. Again I will probably use the disabled toilet area when administering so I have prep space and a sink. It is a bit of a faff but I don't want to cancel on a meal that has been planned for a while.

Thank you both!

@CakePigeon30 yeah i know what you mean it does reslly stress me with doing them out and about as i want to give myself the space and time at home to do it properly. Did the ice pack help with the injecting pain then?

@Allnew2021 that sounds stressful with the mixing out and about but hopefully as a one off it wont be too tricky! Do your friends know you are doing ivf?

@Timetotryagain Yes my friends know - infact 1 is a nurse so offered to help if i need it! I can imagine it would be a bit trickier if you didn't want others to know you are going through IVF. Your clinic will advise on what times to take the meds, some suggest mornings and others say evening. If you have evening shots then I am sure you can find a way to do the injection while out.
