Letrozole 5mg rescan experiences?

Hi all, new to this topic! I’d love to hear stories or experiences if you’ve had to have a rescan after taking letrozole.

I have PCOS and am on my first cycle of letrozole - I took provera to induce a bleed and went straight onto 5mg days 2-7 of my cycle. I had a scan yesterday on day 13 of my cycle and they said they couldn’t see any leading follicles, so I’ve been booked in for another scan on day 19 of my cycle.

Have any of you had this experience and had a follicle show up on the second scan? Or even better, does anyone have success stories in this situation? If not, what happens next, do we cancel this cycle and restart?

I know the first round should be seen as a bit of a trial but I was disappointed because I’ve had loads of ovary pain which is unusual for me, so I was hoping something was happening down there 🥲

Hello @Readyforroots ,

Didn't want to read & run!! Assuming you've had your CD19 scan now, so you know the results of that? Hope it went okay for you and whilst I can't add any comfort on that front, I did want to share my experience to hopefully offer some reassurance.

Like you, my CD 12 scan didn't show any leading follicles (on both 2.5mg and 5mg Letrozole), so I was brought back in for a later scan which unfortunately showed no changes. However, I was then put onto 7.5mg Letrozole which did the trick and got me ovulating :) I'm yet to get pregnant from it, but I just wanted to give you some hope that the higher doses do work, because I know I spent ages searching for some reassurance when I was in the same boat!! It is tricky being in limbo all the time and wanting the tablets to work but they do get 90% of people ovulating so try and stay positive!!

Hopefully the later scan showed some follicle growth for you though!! x

Hey @AnonTTC thanks for replying ❤️

I did indeed go back for my rescan on Monday and had a perfect leading follicle, just took my body a bit longer to get there!

They said I was due to ovulate any day this week, so am going back in next Monday for a progesterone blood test to check if I did, and then I guess we’ll wait and see!!

Sending lots of baby dust, sounds like things are moving in the right direction for you too - feel free to keep me posted! x

Oh that's fabulous news @Readyforroots !! I bet you were so relieved :) Also fantastic your doctor put you straight onto the 5mg, seems to be the magic dose for most people.

Thank you & good luck to you too! Our first round of 7.5mg didn't lead to pregnancy, but I was just glad it was making me ovulate and we now have 3 months on the same dose before a check in with our consultant so as you say, let's wait and see! Will keep everything crossed for you x

We started on 2.5mg. Nothing at all. Then moved to 5mg.... had a scan and then a rescan and was prescribed 6 cycles of 5mg letrozole. Cycle 4 we got pregnant and my wee boy is now 5 months old. Pray pray and pray more.

Readyforroots · 05/03/2025 06:23

@Oran333 this gives me so much hope, huge congratulations on your little one!!

Hey @Readyforroots hope you don't mind me joining. I'm about to start round 2 of letrozole. AF showed up today. How are you getting on?

Are you taking any other supplements for pcos ?

Readyforroots · 28/03/2025 22:15

Hey @sc1995 welcome!!!! Sorry to hear about AF. Best of luck with your next cycle, sending lots of baby dust 🙏

I’m doing ok, had a bit of a set back because they thought they saw a large fibroid on my scan.

They said we could still try but if it wasn’t a successful round I would need to go for a follow up.

Sadly AF came so I went for a follow up scan… but the fibroid wasn’t there 🥲 obviously super happy about that but I skipped letrozole that cycle so now have to wait 6 WEEKS until I can get a provera prescription and officially start my 2nd cycle (I just know there’s no chance I’ll ovulate on my own) 😅

In terms of supplements, I’m just taking a multivitamin and a folate/chromium/myoinositol combo. Do you take anything else?

sc1995 · 28/03/2025 23:43

glad to hear there was no fibroid! Ahh the wait can be so long, Same here I usually need to take provera to have a bleed as I don't ovulate on my own. Sending lots of baby dust your way too! 🥰 Fingers crossed this next month will be our month.

I'm taking metformin, myoinositol (tried a few brands), vid D, omega 3 and fertility smart vitamins. Which brand of myoinositol are you taking?

Readyforroots · 29/03/2025 06:29

I’ve been taking Free Soul for about a year, but have just finished my bottle so need to get a new one - very open to recommendations!!

How have you found the metformin? I’ve heard good things about the combo of metformin and letrozole!

Yeah I did get excited about the prospect of being a one hit wonder and getting pregnant on the first round of letrozole, but when it didn’t happen I’ve decided I wouldn’t want to have a baby at Christmas anyway 😂

Next month is our month!!! Please keep me posted on how you get on 🙏

I've currently bought the time health inositol complex as one of my friends swears by it.
The metformin for me has been a nightmare in terms of side effects- nausea and the runs 🙊 . But this time around I've decided to slowly increase the dose and just stick with it.

I'll definitely keep you updated. you too! 🤗

Readyforroots · 22/04/2025 15:05

Eeeek, an update for anyone who finds this thread. You know how I said I wouldn’t ovulate on my own?

Well turns out I did… and I got a positive test yesterday 🥹 in total shock and can’t believe it. Thinking maybe the previous month of letrozole gave my follicles a little head start!

Sending hope and love to anyone going through this!!!! 🤞✨💕

Omg thats amazing Congratulations!! @Readyforroots So happy for you?

Im currently 7dpo. I've taken a step back this cycle and not obsessively start testing. Did you have any symptoms in the lead up to the positive?

sc1995 · 22/04/2025 15:48

Apologies. Ignore the question mark after "so happy for you"

Was meant to be "!!"

🥰🥰

Thank you so much!!!!! Honestly my mind is blown, hoping to get a scan with the clinic to confirm because I didn’t think this would happen!!

Have had some periody cramps today and am absolutely starving but to be honest, not that many symptoms??

I took a test last Thursday (somewhere between 7-10dpo I think) because I wanted to drink this weekend haha and it was stark negative, then just had a feeling to take one yesterday and it was positive!

Wishing you soo much luck for this cycle 🤞✨

I'd definitely recommend booking an early scan with the clinic.
Haha what a lovely surprise. !!!

Aww thank you. 🫶 All the best for your pregnancy. Keep us posted. x

Aww this is lovely news @Readyforroots !! Congratulations :)

Love seeing these stories where it happens out of the blue on a cycle you least expect. We are having a 1-2 month break from treatment in June/July but this gives me some hope maybe those months won't be lost after all! x
