Hope after missed miscarriage at 11 weeks?

Hi,
Last week we were completely devastated to find out at our 12 week scan that our baby had stopped growing at 11 weeks and had no heartbeat. We were told they suspected a genetic abnormality and the baby has been sent off for testing after I had surgery.

Would love to hear any happy endings anyone has from getting pregnant again after a miscarriage this late on. How long did it take you?

For context, I am aged 30 with a high egg count but it has taken us 2yrs to get pregnant. I had surgery in September 2024 to remove a dodgy fallopean tube which I think was causing our infertility as we fell pregnant once I recovered.

thank you x

Hi im so sorry for your loss. I'm in limbo at the moment. Can I ask what your symptoms were during this time or were they all classed as normal pregnancy symptoms? X

Frenchie86 · 12/02/2025 12:49

So sorry to hear that, it is awful. I had a similar experience. After 4 years of trying (unexplained infertility), I fell pregnant spontaneously. Sadly we discovered a heart condition incompatible with life so had to have surgery at 13 weeks. We didn’t get pregnant again naturally but had a successful round of IVF 6 months later. It doesn’t sound like you will have to go down that route though. All that to say there is Hope and your body can have a successful pregnancy.

@Sherr33 Thank you. I’m sorry to say I didn’t have any symptoms of miscarriage, it was a missed miscarriage and I turned up to my 12 week scan fully expecting to see a healthy baby. I had the usual pregnancy symptoms of nausea, tiredness, food aversions, acid reflux. Is there a particular symptom you are worried about?

@Frenchie86 thank you so much for replying, it has been an awful time. I’m sorry that you know how this feels. We actually started IVF last summer and have 9 embryos on ice. We never made it to transfer as I had to have surgery and then we were waiting for transfer when we fell pregnant for the first time ever. So, we might end up doing a transfer in April seeing as we have the embryos. I have no idea how long it might take us to conceive naturally again. So nice to hear you had IVF success, lovely to hear and definitely gives me hope. Thank you!

I’m so glad it could give you a bit of hope and that’s great news that you have 9 embryos stored, we got 4 in total, 1 fresh which resulted in DD, then 3 frozen. Currently pregnant with my second using the last embryo. Hopefully you will get pregnant naturally but I actually found it less stressful going through IVF as it felt like we were taking control a bit more. I’m so sorry you had to go through all that though, it’s very traumatic.

Clocloxx · 12/02/2025 20:41

I'm so sorry you're going through this! I had a mmc in 2018 also at my 12 week scan just to be told it stopped growing at 9 weeks, I found it has totally changed my outlook in life but I did fall pregnant maybe 2 or 3 weeks after my D&C
I still think of the little baby I lost, in time you will feel better and it's not the end of your journey xx

Tryingforachance · 12/02/2025 23:18

I have felt a bit like that re IVF seeming less scary / more of an element of control than trying naturally again. We’ll see how we go but we’re going to speak to our IVF consultant soon. Amazing news that you are pregnant with your second IVF baby, wishing you the very best of luck with your pregnancy, thank you so much for replying.

Nov 2020 we had a little ones heartbeat stop in utero at approx 11+5. Like you, we were shocked and heartbroken at the scan.

Then a further 2yrs TTC (lots of pre existing fertility challenges), conceived again Sept 2022, had our daughter the following summer. No concerns in that pregnancy at all.

Wishing you all the luck in the world x

@IWillBeWaxingAnOwl I am so sorry for your loss. It is such a horrible thing. I am so happy to hear that you have a healthy happy daughter now. Did your first baby ever get sent off for testing? Ours has been but we haven’t had results back yet. X

@Tryingforachance we actually had enhanced screening of me and the embryo and no nothing ever found to explain

Cornflakes123 · 14/02/2025 12:59

I had the same a few years ago. Stopped growing at 11 weeks. Found out it was due to chromosomal abnormalities.
im now pregnant through ivf with pgta. We were trying for a while after the miscarriage and nothing was happening so i decided to go for ivf as time wasn’t on my side at 37. So sorry for your loss.

I’m so sorry for your loss ❤️. I also had a missed miscarriage, discovered at the 12 week scan. My baby had stopped growing at 9.5 weeks. It took us 2 years to conceive that pregnancy & after another miscarriage a year later we went down the IVF with PGTA testing route. I’m now 22 weeks pregnant & desperately hoping for a happy ending this time. Sadly miscarriages & missed miscarriages are much more common than people think. Take care of yourself ❤️

Tryingforachance · 15/02/2025 17:16

@PinaColadaJ thank you for replying and so sorry to hear about your losses also. Huge congratulations on your pregnancy so far, I have everything crossed for you. Did you ever find out why the initial loss happened through genetic testing? X

Thank you ❤️

We weren’t given the option for any testing, but the Doctor thought that it was most likely a genetic issue. This is the most common cause of a miscarriage before 12 weeks.

Hi, sorry to hear such sad stories, miscarriage is brutal.
I had a (not missed) miscarriage at 11.5 weeks after my third IVF ICSI cycle. 5yrs ttc to get to that point.
I had very light bleeding for a couple of days went to A&E referred to EPU they scanned said everything perfect size heartbeat etc for 11.5 weeks. Went home had the miscarriage that night. Literally the most painful thing I have ever experienced (even more painful than childbirth by a mile as had no pain relief) two years later and cycle 5 ICSI IVF resulted in DC 😍and yes I still had to go to the bloody 12 week scan after the miscarriage the following week as they didn't believe me when I spoke to them on the phone that I had miscarried as all was perfect that very morning 😭honestly attending that appointment with all the happy 12 week moms knowing i wasn't pregnant was probably the most emotionally painful experience of my life. But don't think the NHS can afford repeat EPU scans or something so it is what it is.
Sorry about the rant lol. But have tg a DC now so alls well ends well etc etc
Wishing you all the best and sucsess with you ttc journey! 💜

Thanks so much for replying. I am so sorry to hear about your experience, that sounds truly awful. Did you ever find out why your mc happened through genetic testing or anything else?
So happy to hear you have DC now, encouraging to hear. We have 9 embryos frozen (were waiting for transfer when we fell pregnant) so it might be that we continue down that path too xx
