Egg Collection - Hidden Ovary

Hello! This is my first time posting on this topic. We’ve just put in for our ICB ICSI funding and will hopefully hear back in the next few days.

I was wondering if anyone could share positive experiences of egg collection and a hidden/difficult to access ovary.

My left ovary is a bugger. On previous pelvic ultrasounds/hycosy they’ve really struggled to see it - and in some cases they can’t at all. They’ve only managed once!

I do want to go into the process with my eyes wide open, but for now would love to hear any positive stories.

thank you! X

Hi. I had one hidden ovary that they struggled with on the scans and unfortunately that was where I was having most success during the stims with the follicle growth. The other ovary that was accessible didn’t perform well at all. They said they would need to wait until the day to determine what they could or couldn't do. However they were able to manipulate it on the day of egg collection and were successful in getting all bar 1 egg from that ovary. Was quite painful the day after but had 100% fertilisation and now have a son from it. They can definitely access it with a good doctor so don’t be too worried.

Thank you @Mumplus01, I so appreciate you replying. It’s such a daunting process and knowing I have a pesky ovary is really worrying me. Glad to hear you were successful 🩷

Do you suffer from constipation?

It happened to me once during an egg collection and they said probably my intestine was blocking the ovary.

I don’t! They’ve just struggled to get to it on various scans - I think it sits a lot higher than the right one unfortunately

Yes, I have a detached ovary that is always hiding on scans and is difficult to access. They were always able to access it for EC, but always said there was a chance of it being too high up.

Thanks @NadiaSeq! It’s really helpful to hear about other people’s experiences 🩷

I paid for a general just incase

however once on stims it could be seen by pressing down . No issues getting to it at all

One of my ovaries is difficult to access, it's behind the uterus and deep in the body. It was always a challenge to visualise it on scans. I had three egg collections, on two occasions it was accessible, and once it was not. That one time when it was not accessible most of the follicles were on the other ovary anyway. Good luck!
