IVF meds - how is the decision made?

Hi Ladies
My first experience of IVF is just around the corner, we are going abroad for it, I need to arrive a few days before my cycle starts to finish with some blood test they need before I'm allowed to start.

My question is how does the doctor decide what medication and doses I need? Is it based on US results? When does this US need to be done? On what cycle day?

I am worried that I planned my trip badly...

I am under the impression that DR needs US on day 1 of my cycle to decide what meds/doses to prescribe, but I need to start meds on day 1 of my cycle too. The meds usually take 24-48 hours to be delivered... The maths doesn't add up.

What is your experience? Thank you

My protocol was all agreed around 18 months ago . Slight tweaks during stims . Some clinics do baseline scan whilst others don’t . I would expect to know your protocol and meds delivered in advance of baseline scan

baseline will give an idea how many follicles your starting with

all your tests beforehand , amh etc etc medical history will allow them to prepare the protocol they feel is best for you - your conditions and age etc . They may adjust during treatment

not all clinics start from natural cycle either , so this may be a factor

would honestly give them a ring lovey if your worrying about it , you are the customer - best of luck for your first checks xx

If you arrive before your cycle starts for the blood tests etc and the plan is to have a scan on day 1 to decide what medication you need I would imagine they will just prescribe your medication there and then.

I did some cycles in Spain. Sometimes I went over for the beginning of the cycle as you described. And sometimes I had a scan in a place like Ultrasound Direct and sent the results and my clinic told me when to start taking medication (it would have been prescribed already though and the decision would be about dosage).
