Third cycle of IVF. Egg retrieval yesterday resulted in 6 eggs retrieved which we were delighted with as previously we got 2 and 0. Our update today shows only 3 have fertilised. I feel like I’m really unlikely to get any blasts with that kind of drop off rate. Has anyone only had 3 fertilised eggs and still made it to a transfer?

I’d say you have a good chance! I had 7 eggs retrieved during my second round in December - 5 were mature and 3 fertilised. I ended up with 3 blasts and am currently pregnant from one of them

Heya

We only got 3 fertilised and 2 made it to blast so please don't lose hope. It's quality over quantity although I can completely relate to the feeling of devastation as we went through the same thing and was convinced we would have nothing by the end

Take each day and you are still in the game.

Wishing you all the best xx

Similar story here, first round - 5 eggs collected, 3 fertilised, end up with 1 good quality blast to freeze.

@adviceneeded1990

Hiya,

My first cycle I got 2 eggs, both fertilised but neither made it to blasts so didn't do transfer.

Second cycle we upped my meds and gave longer between egg collection and trigger. Got 9 eggs, 5 were mature, 3 fertilised and 2 made it by day 5- transferred two early blasts. Currently 8 weeks pregnant 😀

Thanks everyone! First cycle we got 2 but neither developed, second cycle we got none, so I’m very expectant of bad news, 6 seemed like a dream come true and to lose half of that overnight has been so upsetting. I know it’s a fairly normal attrition rate but it’s so hard to be rational.

My clinic was also meant to use MFSS to help with the sperm being slightly less than optimal and has forgotten to add it to the protocol so I’m angry about that too as we may have had higher fertilisation using that!

first cycle I got 5 fertilised and all made to blast. Second cycle I got 4 and 2 made it to day 5 & the freezer.

This is the worst bit of ivf - the waiting! Do all you can to keep occupied

Long time lurker here, but I couldn’t pass your post without offering some reassurance. I had 8 eggs collected and only 3 made it to fertilisation stage with 2 good enough to freeze.

I have since transferred both and they both took! I sadly had a miscarriage at 9 weeks but am currently 7 weeks pregnant with my second.

I was originally devastated with only 2 blasts, but please be reassured that we got to transfer and BOTH worked.

Wishing you and everyone reading this so much luck on your journeys! X

Please please keep hope lovely 🥰

those 3 may be fantastic . One day a time

I had 4 embryos - two were highest grading and all made it to freezer

It’s such a rollercoaster and all you can do it sit and ride it out

I had lots of follicles on scan, they were hopeful for a really good collection, got 6 and none made it to blast so we needed up with nothing. Got second attempt in April and I’m not very hopeful if I’m honest

Good luck and fingers crossed for you x

It's quality over quantity. At my egg collection, 8 were retrieved. 5 fertilised overnight and 2 made it to day 5. 1 is now a frosty, and the other was a fresh transfer which is still coming along nicely - I'll be 20 weeks as of Tuesday. Try not to lose hope. In the meantime, try to occupy yourself over the next few days. Go for walks, a nice meal, read a book etc. Wishing you all the best xx
