Going in for my 2nd egg retrieval on Friday and feel very nervous. I could barely handle the internal scan when checking the follicles. My 1st egg retrieval was so painful, and this round they have upped my Gonal-f from 150 last round to 225 this round in order to achieve more eggs. I'm alot more swollen this time. Just wish my clinic offered full sedation.

Day 7 of stims, left ovary has 6 follicles ranging 6-12mm and right ovary has 11 follicles ranging 6-18mm.

So nervous. TIA x

If I’m reading this correctly it sounds like you received inadequate sedation previously. I’ve had quite a few egg collections, in different clinics, and don’t remember any.

Why do they not offer more sedation? Is it a matter of cost (can you pay more) or do they not actually have the staff? Is there an affiliated clinic where you could go for egg collection?

And did they explain this at the start? You’ve already had a painful experience so they should be trying to work with you.

Thank you for reply, my clinic offers gas and air, and a 2.5mg lorazepam. They don't offer full sedation, I wish they did.
I'm dreading Friday so much, but I guess it's only half an hour tops of pain.
Hooe you're okay in this IVF journey,

Can I ask what clinic this is?
I cannot believe clinics are still doing this. I was fully sedated but was still in quite a bit of pain when I woke up. I was then given extra pain reIief. I think you should tell them that the pain was unmanageable last time and ask them what else they can offer. They must know that most clinics offer full sedation for a reason.

100% agree with the other posters. Can you ask for conscious sedation? That is a combination of drugs (midazalam and something beginning with a p I believe) so you are awake but most probably won’t remember/feel anything. I also had an ibroprofen suppository beforehand. Hope it goes ok for you and you have a better experience than last time xx

Just want to add my agreement to the other posters. I've luckily had sedation but a friend of mine has had a painful egg collection without which sounds similar to yours. It was NHS funded whereas mine was private but I'm sure mine was only £400 for the sedation.

She warned me off and I've warned all other friends to make sure their clinic does proper sedation.

She was with Care fertility FYI for others...

Hi all,

Thank you for all your replies, yep I'm with care fertility and NHS funded, i just couldn't do the gas and air last time so going to watch some videos to make sure I get it right this time. Egg collection due tomorrow 10.15am wish me luck 🙏🏻 yeah sorry I get a suppository too, forgot to add that. Did anyone else have the pressure pain when having follicle scan? It was awful, felt it all in my bum too 🙈 where as my follicle scan for my previous EC was fine.
I'm sure I will survive it, and hopefully get a few embryos 🙏🏻
Thank you, and wish yous the best in this journey ❤️

Wishing you all the best, for as little pain as possible and hopefully good quality eggs that will make embryos.
My IVF journey has lasted a long time but I now am through the other side, just wanted to give encouragement.

Wishing you all the best! Its so nerve wracking isn't! Iv never done an egg retrieval without sedation but the one where i woke up in the most pain was also an NHS cycle, one we did at guys and st thomas.....
Anyway on a positive note sounds like youve got some great eggs developing, those are good numbers. Wishing you much success and a BFP soon!

Aww thank you and so glad to hear you are at the other side of it, there is hope for us all, don't suppose you want to share your fertility journey, I love hearing positive stories it gives me so much hope 🥰

Thank you cherry blossom really appreciate it ♥️

My retrieval pain wasn't as bad as my previous collection and I asked for meds too they gave me codeine and paracetamol through a drop. My embroyologist also waited for me to get the hang of the gas and air before she started the procedure.

I got 9 eggs, 8 mature and 6 fertilised, I spent all day crying thinking the worst as my previous collection I got 15 eggs, 11 mature and 7 fertilised. So comparing numbers quality over quantity 🥰

Thank you again to you both for your replies really appreciate it ♥️
