I've been referred for tests due to recurrent miscarriages (I also have two live children aged 7&6). They've had the first test result back and I have extremely high prolactin levels and have been put on medication.i had a miscarriage before I had my children then 3 miscarriage since trying for my third child, however I've also been prescribed cocodamol and tramadol since the birth of my youngest 6 years ago, will those medications make my prolactin levels extremely high causing the miscarriages? I haven't took them while pregnant and my doctor hasn't mentioned them at all as causes and I am having more investigations done. Sorry for waffling I'm not sure how to word it all together, thank you

Did they put you on Cabergoline?

I have high prolactin because of a prolactinoma and have been on Cabergoline for 10 yrs.
As far as I know high prolactin doesn't cause miscarriages but instead stops you from ovulating but I'm not a dr so I could be wrong.

Have you been on cocodamol and tramadol for a whole 6 years? I'd say you need to ask your dr about those, I don't think they cause high prolactin, but it's probably not a good idea to be on them so long

Hi thank you replying, yeah they did. I'm going to start on it next week and have an MRI and see an endocrinologist.
I was put on the cocodamol due to a slipped disk in my back but it's very bad or 'dangerous' so to speak but it's extremely annoying and gives me sciatica and pain.
The doctor told me that the prolactin can cause issues with progesterone and cause miscarriage as well as fertility issues.
They haven't found a reason as to why the levels are so high and if it's a benign tumour or what, but I read online a lot of links of opiates and prolactin.
I do agree about being cocodamol for a long time and I have weaned off it especially after finding this out but I think with my back there's likely to be times where I'm going to need it - I just need to figure out other ways to help the pain and only take cocodamol when it's extremely bad
