Breastfeeding and FET

Hi all, my IVF baby is 21mo and still breastfeeding 2- 3 times during the day and 4- 5 times at night (trying to stop but proving very difficult for various reasons).

Does anyone know if I can do an FET whilst still breastfeeding? Obviously I'll ask my doctor too but just wanted to know if anyone had any experience or advice?

I have 3 frozen embryos left, I'm really hoping one will stick! I also can't remember the process for an FET- I vaguely remember there being some injections..!

Thank you for any advice

Hey! My clinic advised against a FET until I had stopped breast feeding for 3 months. Not sure if all clinics follow this rule. I think there is a higher chance of success without any prolactin hormone around? Worth asking your clinic for their specific advice. Good luck x

My clinic prefer a natural or natural modified FET (ie no medication or with just a trigger shot then progesterone) whilst breastfeeding instead of a medicated FET.
I have had 2 unsuccessful FETs which they do not attribute to breastfeeding but they have said we can look at changing approach for the next FET as although preference is for natural any potential risk of the drugs passing through to the breastfed child are minimal.

They have very similar success rates for medicated or unmedicated FETs.

They did hormone blood tests and were interested in vitamin D levels (basically take more than you think you need!)

I have also done microbiome testing as some say that breastfeeding can deplete the good bacteria. Not sure on the science with that but the cost was minimal compared to the FET.

There is a very active private Facebook group for women having fertility treatment and breastfeeding. I have previously seen on mumsnet threads with women who have had successful FET while breastfeeding.
