Hi all,

Hoping someone can help.

First cycle - 4 eggs yesterday. Complete fertilisation failure

One egg didn’t survive the ICSI procedure and rest didn’t do anything.

Has this happened to anyone else or is this game over?

Thanks

I think I may have replied to you in another thread but just in case it helps to keep it in here and for others to see...

Really sorry to hear that, it's so hard. We had TFF with ICSI and 19 mature eggs back in the summer with donor sperm (same sex couple) and it was a huge shock. I was devastated and off work for a few weeks due to the impact on my mh as I thought it was all over. We changed the donor and used Artificial Oocyte Activation (AOA) and had a much better outcome, the next round we got 10/21 fertilised (so still a low rate but so much better) and 7 blasts. The clinic can't be sure which helped but likely the AOA as the other donor did have proved fertility. I know it doesn't help your situation right now but I know seeing some success stories gave me a bit of hope and motivation to try again (at one point I thought that was it). I really hope you have more success in the future 💕

I had this in my 1st ivf cycle it was devastating! Totally unexpected. I have low amh but was 30 at the time so was told egg quality would be good, anyway we got 7 eggs 4 mature 0 fertilized. Clinic said icsi will bypass this issue so next cycle we got 2 mature eggs both fertilized with icsi both degraded day 4 and day 5, embryologist said my eggs are bad, no resistance very dark and granularity, so for my 3rd cycle I took 600mg ubiquinol for 3 months green juice with wheatgrass every morning had a ovarian PRP in October, 3rd cycle lower meds bit collected 10 eggs, 8 mature, 7 fertilized. My egg quality was still bad as I've had the same remarks on my eggs but not as bad as I made 2 low quality blastocysts to freeze and done a day 3 transfer of too good-looking embryos.
Currently 12dpo and got a positive hpt. Early days but it's the furthest I have gotten in my fertility journey, it's important to stay strong mentally and remember it's definitely not the end!
Like the above poster I've heard great things on Artificial Oocyte Activation too! Did the embryologist have any remarks about your eggs?

Thank you for your messages. She said one was poor quality and was the one that didn’t survive ICSI. The other 3 she said looked fine but cannot see what goes on inside the egg. Seems so painful waiting for appointment with the consultant.

Alot can depend on the medications used to cook your eggs too and the expertise of the embryologist, I think some labs are just better then others also, I changed clinics after my second failed ivf where they still didn't want to change protocol for a 3rd cycle.
I'm sorry you're going through this it's definitely not easy but you will get you're happy ending!

In our first round we had 9 mature eggs and they all failed to fertilise despite using ICSI. We were told they don't know why that happened and there was little they or we could do other than the usual lifestyle changes to improve the sperm... It was a big shock especially as they were really positive after the egg collection and despite my husband having a low sperm count, they said this is overcome with ICSI.

We then took 3 months off and put my husband on Impryl. We also made some lifestyle changes but nothing drastic. This round has been successful so far - 32 eggs collected and 6 made it to 5 day embryos! I am currently 9 days into the two week wait and testing positive.

It is absolutely devastating to be told none of your eggs fertilised and they have no idea why that is. The one positive we kept repeating to ourselves is that it's rare (1-3% apparently) and very unlikely to happen again and in our case it didn't. So there is hope even if it feels like the worst thing that could happen ❤️

Sometimes it can be the IVF protocol, change the stim medicines for the next cycle. I've had a cycle like that and then next one better.
