First appointment with hospital - what to expect?

Our GP recently made an IVF referral for us. I have an appointment at the hospital with the gynaecology team next week. I’ve been given no details about what might happen at this appointment. Can anyone shed any light? My partner has already had semen analysis and I have had swabs and blood tests but no scan (been on waiting list for 3months prior to referral being made)

TIA

@Norfolk1983 Hey!

We’re at the start of our fertility clinic journey although things don’t seem to be moving as quickly as yours! My GP referred me in January and I’m still yet to meet the clinic 😅

I have had an initial appointment but this was over the phone. She went through a lot of questions, most things the GP had already asked. She then referred me for a HyCosy and my partner for genetic counselling blood tests. This was October time and we’re still waiting for my partners genetic blood test results. She was able to tell me a bit more about my partners analysis results during the appointment but didn’t go into much detail. It’s mainly questionnaire on you both!

Let me know how you get on, would be interesting to see how quickly you get things moving because this has been a long process for us so far!

Hi There,
Thought I'd weigh in although mines was almost 2 years ago. My first appt involved a discussion about my husbands semen analysis, the results of my blood tests and an internal scan of my uterus to have a look at my ovaries. They'll then tell you what the next steps need to be. So as the previous poster mentioned they might check your tubes with a hsg or they might do ovulation induction or they might add you to the waiting list for ivf. It's all very dependent on initial findings. What I would mention is that my clinic weighed me right away to make sure my bmi was under 30, that's something they'll do very regularly to make sure you fall within criteria for ivf. Best of luck, hope it goes well xx

Hi, thanks for your reply :) When the referral went in on 25th Nov, it said there was a 21 week wait for an appointment in average. I am rapidly approaching 42 so that may the reason why I’ve been offered an appointment so soon. I was very surprised! It seems vary alot depending on area?! Will keep you updated x

Hi

Little update as I had my appointment this afternoon. She said to a HyCosy/scan isn’t needed as the outcome (IVF referral) would be likely either way if my tubes were blacked or not given our circumstances and other results.
I have been booked in for a AMH blood test on Xmas Eve and the results take 2-3 weeks. From there, if the numbers are good there will be an application for funding I think. Just have to keep on track with the weight loss to make sure I’m definitely under bmi 30 when it comes to the next appointment x

Thanks. Just reading up about AMH testing now. She said usually it needs to be over 5.5 I think 🤔. X
