Low sperm count/sperm freeze - how many samples until there’s enough sperm?

Hello 😊

My partner had his freeze today due to severe male factor infertility. They called to say they have only been able to freeze 4 sperm, out of those 4 only 2 have progressive motility. They’ve said he needs to do another sample as they want more sperm for back up, just incase when he does his fresh sample for transfer the sperm isn’t viable.

Understandably my partner is quite upset and currently not really talking. He’s said he doesn’t want to do another sample as he feel even more humiliated (this is his second sample).

So I think my question is has anyone else’s partners had this? And how many times have they had to do samples until they had enough for treatment? As they also want another £300 after we’ve just paid £450.

Im worried my partner will now completely retract and this is it 💔

Oh bless him. That’s tough on him, and you. Is he on any vitamins? My OH cut out caffeine and alcohol completely and his sample has improved (had egg collection today and his fresh sample showed promise). He did a frozen sample prior and got 10 straws of semen too on the freezer.

@ivfjourneyandme he was on vitamins when he done the initial analysis (only about a month so wasn’t long enough at that point). The consultant then told him taking vitamins and changing his diet won’t make a difference and basically a waste of time, so since then he stopped 🤦🏼‍♀️ I’m going to try and convince him to start them again and re do another sample in 3 months. We only managed to get 2 straws yesterday x
