Hello all, I've recently done a egg sharer round of IVF
They collected 18 so I donated 9 and kept 9, 7 fertilised 5 frozen as follows
Day 5 5BA
3BB
3BB
3BB
Day 6 3CC

I am extremely grateful to have embryos in the freezer but can't help worry about the grading. Also why are they only "size 3" on day 5 surely they should be 4?? Any success stories? Thank you.

I did not receive grading in the same way you did, my first round only resulted in 1 "poor quality" embryo, which they said was too poor of quality to survive a freezing process. I can only assume it would have been graded around the 1 or 2cc mark and I'm currently10 weeks pregnant with that fresh transfer.

Hi, the 3 is just the expansion stage, it goes up to 5 and then hatching. From 3-5 there is no difference in quality so 3 is totally fine and a good result. All of your day 5 ones are rated as good or excellent, so again what I’d consider a really good result. The day 6 is rated as average as C grade but still could be completely viable. There’s quite a bit of evidence showing that if you freeze and then transfer day 6 embryos they have similar success rates to day 5, as you avoid a mistiming issue that occurs with a fresh transfer.

To get 5 embryos from 9 eggs is above the average (which would be 2-4 embryos) so again a really good result.

Grading is not everything, my first two transfers of my ‘best’ embryos (3AA and 3AB) resulted in a MMC due to chromosome abnormalities and then a BFN. My third transfer was a 3BA and I’m now 21 weeks pregnant and all looks good. Also worth mentioning that all of them thawed and had reached hatching stage when they transferred them.

You’ve got really good results that so many people would kill for. So definitely not something to worry about. Good luck!
