The Evewell- Emma the Embryologist

Hi all,

I have just had a very strange/unsettling experience with The Evewell. The whole cycle was a bit of a disaster- met the new consultant there (Dr Ahmed) who got us in very quickly. We started on my first bleed after a miscarriage at 10 weeks. On my base scan he told me he would be going away for 3 weeks. I was asked whether I wanted to see a male or female consultant- said I didn't mind but ended up not being given a named consultant. From that point it all descended into a mess.... different people every time. Ended up with borderline OHSS 20 eggs, 12 fertilised- all made it to day 3 only 1 day 5 blastocyst, 3 day 6. Comms from the Evewell throughout were useless- we'd have to chase etc... We'd been reading a lot of Emma the embroyologist's instagram page- she had published all of this stuff saying day 5 embryos much more likely to be normal than day 6 so we were pretty upset. The embryogists at The Evewell kept telling us they were 'very happy' with how everything was going which was also kind of upsetting- when I said well most of our embryos are day 6 etc they were asking where I was getting my information. I said from the head of your embryology departments instagram page.... they seemed to be singing from a different hymn sheet. I ended up confused incredibly upset- tbh I found all their social media content about it being empathetic and transparent triggering when it felt the exact opposite. Ended up emailing when I was incredibly upset at 6am and finally they swung into gear and the head of the lab called me who was really nice. I explained the confusion with the conflicting data on Emma's page and the information they were giving us. That day suddenly posts on Emma's page and videos came down. Whole thing felt incredibly weird and ikky tbh. Upshot of it all is- we've sent all these embryos off to biopsy at huge cost. My husband is convinced it's all a bit of a swizz and they'll all be abnormal. The whole thing has freaked me out beyond beyond.

I have no experience with Evewell, but to give you some reassurance we had 6 embryos sent to biopsy last cycle - 1 x day 5, 4 x day 6 and 1 x day 7. 3 came back euploid, meaning that at least 2 of the day 6/7 ones were euploid.

This cycle I have similar-ish results to yours and feel quite sad about it 9 fertilised, all alive day 3, now 1 x day 5 blastocyst and 3 x day 6 blastocysts. All sent off for testing. Fingers crossed but I'm feeling a little disappointed.

Do you mind me asking how old you are?

Agree, stats are different. But I've also been told that for my age my egg quality doesn't seem great :( so I'm more aligned with early-mid 30s in the words of my doc
