High Prolactin / LH

Hey everyone, so have been ttc number 1 for around 18 months with zero luck, my partner and I have had all the tests and everything came back ‘normal’ and so we are now with fertility clinic on the road to IVF next year.

Consultant requested a few extra bloods which I’ve now had and can actually see them on the NHS app (kind of wish I couldn’t so I wasn’t now overthinking 😂). Two things are showing as outside the range, Prolactin - this is 964 and it says range is 0-495 and also LH (on day 3) is 14.6 and it says range is 2.4 - 12.6.

Of course I just need to wait to speak with the Dr and see what they have to say, but I was just wondering if anyone else has had anything similar and if it was seen as an issue / something they could fix to potentially help chance of conceiving? Any advice is greatly appreciated ☺️ thanks!

I had increased prolactin several years ago, at one point it was up over 1600. I was given medication to take and within a few months it was back to what it should be. It turned out this wasn’t the issue for me being unable to conceive and I required IVF several years later.
Its very treatable so please don’t panic x

Hey OP, I have high prolactin and have had since my 20s. (Now late 30s). Mine is caused by a small benign tumour in my pituitary gland. At their highest, my numbers have been around 1400. When I’m on medication they drop really low really quickly, they can be under 200 in a few weeks.

When I was TTC my son, we tried for a year before I went on medication for my high prolactin and conceived the first month I started the meds.

Once diagnosed, it can be fairly easily treated. Stay positive! Good luck. We have been TTC again and just discovered my prolactin has crept up to over 700. Back on meds again and hoping for success again 😊

Hey @Mumontherunn @SH998 thanks a lot for your replies!

That sounds positive that it’s easily treatable, so that’s reassuring. Part of my feels like it’s good that we potentially have found a reason that’s stopping me conceiving, especially if it’s something that can be fixed! But after 18 months I am not getting my hopes up 😂

now just got to try and get to speak to the Dr! Thanks both

@Mumontherunn sorry I meant to ask, do you have irregular periods or anything? I’ve read that high prolactin can cause irregular periods / issues with ovulation but I have super regular periods and always get positive ovulations tests. Thanks!

@jenkh91 - I have regular periods and almost every month the ovulation sticks say I’m ovulating. It’s impossible to know for def really. We’ve been TTC for a year again now, but we have a few other factors at play too this time. But keeping positive.

I saw our fertility consultant yesterday who is convinced my numbers will drop quickly again now I’m back on Cabergoline. We’re going to see what happens this month and next, and maybe try ovulation induction in a few cycles time I think. It really is just a case of trying to find a needle in a haystack. Wishing you lots of luck!
