Difference between short vs long protocol

I thought all protocols are short protocols. In what case scenario would they prescribe long? Can I say I only want short?
Don't think I can handle 4+ weeks of one cycle with uncertain results

Hey, this just means whether you're given downregulation hormones first (long) or not before stimulation hormones and your clinic will decide.

Do you know what they decide based on?

I have no idea what they decide on, there are probably a few things they take into consideration, and different approaches from different clinics. It was explained to me that they have more control with long protocol, it's takes out some of the uncertainty of when to start stims, and also they took ages into consideration too.

I was meant to have long protocol, but got switched to a shorter protocol last minute.

I had to have a colposcopy last minute (following a smear) and as soon as the results came through I called my clinic. They looked at where I was in my menstrual cycle and said to go ahead with short protocol. It was still 3 weeks of down regulation followed by 10 days of stims.

Hi, I was on the long protocol, I think based on my AMH but couldn't say for sure. My AMH was 14.8. Others I know with higher amh rates were put on the short protocol.
