Cyclones/Progesterone

Looking for some positive stories.

To give some background, been TTC 20 months. Had a chemical pregnancy on cycle 2 (17 months ago) and nothing since. Have low progesterone (19 at 7dpo). Referred to fertility clinic and have 3 cycles left before we submit our IVF funding. Was put on letrozole to boost my progesterone which it did, but I was still spotting anywhere between 9-11dpo. Last cycle my letrozole was upped to 7.5mg and my progesterone level was 40 at 7dpo but then started spotting at 9dpo.
Consultant finally agreed to letting me try progesterone pessaries for the final few cycles which I've now started.

Just looking for some hope really, anyone been in a similar position with unexplained infertility (all other tests for me and my partner are normal), been put on progesterone and then conceived?

Thanks x

Title was definitely meant to say cyclogest 😂

Hi there. Sorry, resurrecting an old post as this sounds like me! We are currently ‘unexplained’ despite low progesterone of 5.7 and 3.7 coming up in a couple of post-ovulation blood tests (scans show I ovulated so they have just said it’s fine). I’m just wondering how you got prescribed letrozole and cyclogest as this is something I’m keen to explore. NHS don’t seem to be keen to prescribe this to me. Also wondering how you’re getting on? Thanks 🙏

@BeetleBearhey, I was under a fertility clinic and they prescribed to me. I actually conceived the month I wrote this post. Have you been referred to a fertility clinic?

Congratulations! Was this using letrozole and cyclogest? And NHS?

Thanks for getting back to me.

Yes we were referred last year and have now done all the tests and HSG etc. Despite low progesterone twice (one test last year was 46 but the rest have been between 3 and 5) we are classed as unexplained infertility so we’re now waiting to receive paperwork for NHS funding for IVF as we are approaching 2 years of TTC.

Your experience makes me feel like we should push for a medicated cycle. But when we had our appointment they said they wouldn’t prescribe anything as I ovulate (from scans during cycle monitoring).

@BeetleBear thank you. I would definitely ask for letrozole and progesterone. I’d done 6 prior cycles of letrozole (although I ovulated normally before these) my progesterone was always borderline and I think it dropped too early hence the spotting before my period around 9/10dpo.

my consultants view was that letrozole would naturally increase my progesterone by boosting ovulation, which it did but it dropped too quickly which I think the progesterone helped with. Definitely push for it. I’d been asking for progesterone since February 2024 and they didn’t prescribe it to me until September 2024.

Congratulations - loved to read that update while reading through the post!

Can I ask if you were monitored during the letrozole/cyclogest months?

I'm looking into this through Plan Your Baby (PYB) and it has scans/blood tests as part of it. I don't think the NHS would consider it for me - I was told the next step was IVF.

My progesterone was 21 7dpo. PYO have prescribed me cyclogest to try for 3 months first. No help in my 1st try so far.
