IVF Egg Collection day tomorrow

I have my egg collection tomorrow and I'm so nervous! Was anyone really nervous about the whole process, especially the sedation bit please? I'm autistic and I over think / worry about everything!

I have 22 follicles which should be ok though at least but still, I'm so nervous, especially paranoid about OHSS 😫.

Good luck with your EC collection, I had mine on 30th Aug so happy to share any hints or tips I can! I would say to relax as much as you can, they told me that the more relaxed I was the less painful it was! 🙏

Sedation was quick and easy, the waiting in the morning and soreness afterwards was by far the worst but pain meds and rest cured everything 🤞

Best of luck with your egg collection. I had mine 3 weeks ago, make sure to take plenty of time to rest afterwards and paracetamol.

That was my 4th collection, and to be honest I really enjoy the sedation, it feels like the best nap you’ll ever have.

Hope it all goes well.

I understand you're anxious, I was a bag of nerves before my 1st egg collection and dreaded the worst! But it all went fine, just like the above poster, the sedation made me feel really relaxed and happy. I didn't feel anything during the whole process and I was totally fine afterwards. Good luck for tomorrow!

Thank you everyone 😊❤️. I have been trying to think of it in a positive way and a great nap sounds amazing!

@Landslide2020 You'll be fine and you won't feel a thing. Take a good book with you to read whilst you're waiting and afterwards. You will honestly feel so chilled and relaxed after the procedure, the sedative is really nice. I felt so well rested when I woke up!

Landslide2020 · 10/09/2024 12:30

@rustyowl I've just started reading books lately after a lot of years of not reading anything at all 😂 so a book is a good idea, and thank you 😊

I was so nervous for EC, I had mine at the start of August, but it was completely fine. Sedation was all good, didn't feel weird or sick after. I was a bit uncomfortable afterwards like period pain, but only took paracetamol for a day or two after. Had some bleeding for a few days after but that's normal. Unfortunately the worst part of the process for us was that none of the 19 eggs fertilised (less than a 1% chance of that happening) so with some tweaks we'll be going through it again. Now I've done one EC I'm really not nervous about having to do another, so hopefully that's some reassurance. I think the worst part of the whole process is the emotional side and waiting!

Edit: also just to add I had 24 follicles so was also worried about OHSS. Perhaps I was lucky but I drank a good amount of water for at least the week afterwards and had a lucozade sports drink each day for a few days after EC. Not sure if it helped or not but felt like I was doing something to help!

How did your EC go? 🙃

How did your EC go? 🙃

@Lil89 It's do nice of you to check in on me.

Just a warning for anyone who reads this and hasn't had their EC yet, we are all different and this was just my experience.

It was quite traumatic for me, especially the pain even though I was on the pain killers and I'm sure I shouted with pain at one point which is when the doc giving pain killers and sedation said "I'll just go and put that sedation up for you a bit" and then I remember stuff after that apart from being trollied back into the 'comfort room' as I call it 😂. I'm sure they sedated me too late or not enough 😂.

I had 26 eggs 🤯 and as you can imagine, I'm still in pain. I was having a panic attack yesterday because of the pain because they don't tell you what to expect properly with it when you go home apart from "paracetamol should ease it". I spoke to 3 different nurses and one remembered me from the day and mentioned not to worry about panicking and mentioned she remembered that I have autism, hence the over worrying ', etc.. Sorry for the essay 😂.

Oh I'm sorry to hear it was painful. Doesn't sound like you had as much sedation or it was as effective for you? I vaguely remember a slight pinching pain during the procedure but wasn't particularly bothered by it if that makes sense so clearly the sedation did it's job. Definitely normal to have pain after, for me it felt like bad period cramps mixed with had trapped wind. I hope you get some good news over the new few days with how things are developing and equally the pain reduces!

Thank you 😊. 19 eggs fertilised so far and find out how many emberyos on Monday 🤞.

Sorry, forgot to add, and I really hope your next cycle goes better for you 🤞. I'm sure it will. At least you know what to expect this time round as well.

Wow that's so good! Fingers crossed for you 🤞 keep us updated if you're happy to?

I'm really hoping my round 2 goes better than round 1 😭

I will do, if I remember 😂. I need to wait for my November cycle for implantation (if we get emberyos), but I'm happy to do that so that my body can recover as I'm at risk of OHSS. I've been drinking sports drinks now and again and also adding a slice of lime to my water for electrolytes.

I believe in timing, and this next time round may be your time 🤞.

Oh wow! So sorry that you had that experience, I went out like a light and felt nothing 🙏 but I only had 4 eggs to collect so probably an easy in and out for the doctors 😂😂😂😂

Landslide2020 · 17/09/2024 18:19

Update

We have 5 great blastocysts but they have been frozen because I have OHSS, but I'd rather heal a bit first anyway.

Transfer should be after my period in November but still waiting for my withdrawal bleed to come first.

All seems to be coming together but this OHSS is worrying me now. When does it ever end? 🙈. The things we pit our body through aye! Starting blood thinner injections tomorrow.

Great to hear about the blastocysts!! I hope you recover from OHSS quickly, look after yourself!
