Has anyone had success after 3+ years trying ?

I have secondary infertility (ttc#3) Had ‘unexplained’ fertility and had 5 years ttc #1 and we needed IVF. #2 was natural conception after 16 months ttc.

It’s now 3 years ttc and I’m wondering do I just save and try IVF again in January as is there any chance now ? Every test comes back ‘normal’ .

Has anyone been ttc for years and then it happens I’ve seen stats for after 1 yr this many couples are pregnant after 2 years this many but nothing for after 3 years 😔

Im 40 but AMH etc are good, there’s clearly something not right though as it’s never been easy

It does happen - sometimes people get lucky, of course.

But if you are desperate for a child, you can't rely on it. The chances are low if you have been ttc for 3 years and it hasn't happened.

Realistically, you are 40 and have had difficulty in the past. It certainly could happen, but at this point it's more likely that it won't.

It depends how much you want a third child - if you could live without, then don't worry too much about it and just wait and see. If your life would feel meaningless/ incomplete without, then you probably need to try IVF.

Yes, I was trying for 3 years and then got pregnant with my daughter. 3 years of tests, scans and throwing everything at it. I have elevated nk cells which was why I struggled to conceive for so many years. Took prednisolone and got pregnant soon after.

It’s hard as we always planned for 3 then it was so difficult to get pregnant the first time that #2 felt like a miracle (even though it took longer than average to get pregnant as I’d done it I felt like maybe that was it whatever issue we had was over if that makes sense) so now I’m just getting so disappointed and it’s so frustrating as there’s nothing identifiable as the problem. I do really want a third but I think realistically we will onto be able to afford 1 cycle of IVF next year so I might just start saving

How was the issue with the cells identified? I haven’t been tested for this

i went to a specialist, Dr Shehata in Epsom and he did a number of blood tests. There should also be others specialists the UK. It’s definitely worth getting tested as it’s more common than people realise

I also have secondary infertility . I was lucky the first time and got pregnant straight away and now I’ve had nothing but a traumatic miscarriage in 3 years. I’ve lost hope I’ll ever conceive naturally now. I’m not sure what the issue is but I’ll be 38 soon. If it is just age related I can’t believe how quickly my fertility deteriorated. If I were you I would save and keep trying in the meantime. You never know you could be lucky.

I hope you don’t mind me commenting.
I’m after some opinions really.
we have 2 children who were both conceived first month of trying and also had a miscarriage between the 2 and that was also first month of trying.
I know we are incredibly fortunate but when we decided to try for a third, because of this, I just thought it wouldn’t be a problem.
Fast forward 3 years and no positive pregnancy test. Hubbys swimmers have been checked; all my hormone levels etc have been checked and all come back as normal.
only thing is, I had a HSG test and doc said that both tubes were either seemingly blocked or ‘in spasm’ .
when I asked about why they may be blocked the consultant got a bit short with me and said that she wasn’t saying they definitely were and they might just be in spasm. she also said that the main cause of blockage would be caused by something like chlamydia which they confirmed I’ve never had.
does anyone have any positive experiences after something like this? X

@liveinhope100 please can I ask what protocol you had for prednisone? Im
also taking it but only for 11 days from trigger (I am doing TI) and wondering if it’s enough (what if my NK cells are already attacking the sperm?). Thanks

nodnol87 · 02/05/2025 07:17

@IsitevenaCake @Holls81 @Missmarymack2 did any of you manage to have your 2nd/3rd? If so was that natural, assisted or IVF?

I’m 3 years TTC number 2. No known issues except elevated NK. Easy conception first time. Just turned 38.

Holls81 · 02/05/2025 08:36

@nodnol87 hiya. No , no luck here I’m afraid.
It’s very frustrating. I’m 44 now so I’ve kind of resigned myself to the fact that it’s probably not going to work for us.
i feel sad every day but also extremely grateful for what I have.
it’s very hard.

@Holls81 sorry to hear that and I understand those conflicting emotions v well 😢

Hi!
I have been TTC for the past 3 years. My two first pregnancies took 3 cycles and 1 cycle. My hubby has a daughter as well. So we are both fertil and I've been told nothing is blocked or wrong. My youngest is now 16 and his is 13. I am now 39 and wondering if anyone has had success (naturally) to conceive even after 3 years of trying. Looking for a bit of hope 🥰

liveinhope100 · 07/09/2025 20:43

Wanted to provide you all with some hope if you haven’t had any success. After over 3 years of trying for my second child I got my bfp. I have been on a treatment plan and it worked first time. I would really recommend looking into elevated nk cells to anyone that doesn’t have any answers.

VioIetMoon · 07/09/2025 21:23

I'm 40 this year, my only child is an ivf baby. We've tried for 20 years naturally and nothing. We did a second round of ivf last month, no transfer as we had to freeze all and I've just found out last week I'm pregnant naturally , so yes I absolutely believe it can happen. Some miracles take their time

nodnol87 · 08/09/2025 06:42

On a similar note of positivity I’ve also just had a BFP after 3 years of nothing. Early days but have had a very early scan to confirm it’s intrauterine but no fetal pole yet. We were due to start ivf this month - eye roll - I hate reading about these well timed miracles.

zirafica · 08/09/2025 16:48

This is quite common - especially after an egg retrieval course of injections. Apparently your body is primed with all the good stuff to get pregnant that they fill us with during the follicle stimulation part that conceiving naturally immediately after is a well known occurrence!
