Preparing for FET

Hi there,
I had my first egg retrieval a few weeks back and am fortunate to have 6 embryos frozen now. We had to freeze all due to number of follicles. I'm currently taking Fematab. Had a scan last week and my lining was only 5mm so have another on Monday with the hopes of a transfer the following week.

I was just wondering if anyone has any advice for what to do/not do in this period? I have gone for reflexology a couple of times and acupuncture.
i also resumed exercising once i had recovered from the egg retrieval. This has made me feel so much better both mentally and physically but now i am wondering should i be taking it easier in the weeks leading up to FET?

any advice would be appreciated! Thanks 😊

Hi,

I haven’t got any advice on FET as I am not at that stage yet but I do have my egg collection on Tuesday - doing my trigger tonight. I am slightly worried that I will need a freeze all as I have 21 follicles on one side and 10 on the other. Can I ask how many you had for them to make the decision to do a freeze all?

Hope your FET all goes well xx

I think I had around 24 follicles and got 16 eggs in the end. Honestly it was kind of nice to have to wait as it's lovely feeling back to normal now and I feel better physically for the FET. Initially I was frustrated not to be able to transfer straight away but I think it was for the best in the end!

Wow, that’s a good number of eggs. Yes, the nurses were trying to reassure me the other day and said that overall FET is the nicer process.. just the extra wait that puts me off. I feel like we’ve waited so long just to get to this stage already!

I know what you mean… I just got my transfer date today for the end of next week. Feels good that it’s finally happening!

Hi
In in my latest FET I decided to do acupuncture and give up the gym. I just did some yoga at home and some gentle walking in the garden. I also took it easy on the housework. I don’t know if it helped but it resulted in a positive pregnancy test.

I hope your FET goes well x

Thanks so much and for the tips. I’ll definitely take it easy on the housework anyway 😆

Good luck for your FET @fiha23 I'm sure whatever you do that makes you feel good, healthy and well rested, will help. I would continue exercise, make sure you're getting enough sleep and eating well.

I have just had egg collection and will hopefully have an FET in October or November.

Can I ask, how long was it between your egg collection and FET? Do you have to wait a certain amount of time? Do they time it with your natural ovulation/ natural cycle?

I'm in my mid-30's with normal fertility (we're male factor) and I don't know if I'll need to take any medication in the lead up - what's the normal process?

fiha23 · 05/09/2024 16:48

Thanks so much. Yeah I'm just doing what feels good right now and trying to sleep and eat well.

I had my egg retrieval on August the 7th and fet is next Friday the 13th. Once I had the egg retrieval my period arrived about a week later and i started on Fematab a few days later.
I had a scan about 2 weeks later. They weren't happy with my lining so my Fematab was increased. Had another scan at the start of this week and lining is now between 7 and 8mm and they seemed happy with that. I have to start progesterone shots twice a day from this Sunday.
Hope that helps! I thought it would all move a bit quicker but at least it's happening soon!

I've just been told today that I'll be having a freeze all. In a way, I'm quite glad that it'll give my body the time to recover but I'm not looking forward to the withdrawal bleed. What are the benefits of acupuncture? I'm wondering if I should book in somewhere.

fiha23 · 06/09/2024 11:58

My bleed wasn't bad at all. It was actually very non eventful, was expecting it to be worse than my period!
I was doing reflexology just to relax but she also does acupuncture so when I heard my lining was on the thinner side she told me acupuncture can help with that. I was also told that it's good right before and then right after the transfer too. Not sure if it really helps at all but figured I'd give it a go!
Hope you're feeling OK after the transfer, I know I was a bit sore for a few days after until my ovaries went down again!

Oh okay, that's reassuring as I've been imagining some kind of horrible painful period! We'll have to wait and see. Anything relaxing sounds good to me so I'll definitely check out both! Thanks, today is the third day after the collection and it's the first day I haven't felt extremely bloated so hopefully each day will just be an improvement.
