2nd Transfer Failure

Hi everyone, I have just found out today our second embryo transfer failed and was hoping to get some useful advice.

our first transfer was fresh but I think I had mild OHSS at the time so probably should have waited for a frozen. We then had a FET. Both embryos were top grades. We have 4 frozen left.

we are having IVF for male factor but I feel that because of this I have not really been looked into very much but now I feel like why would these good embryos not implant if there isn’t another issue.

i will be scheduling our review appointment on Monday but I feel like they will just say it is bad luck and to try again. Does anyone have any suggestions of questions I should be asking at the review or additional tests that would be worth while?thanks in advance I always get great advice on these forums

Hi, so sorry about your experience. It's positive you have more embryos and that you made several with male factor. Same story for me in so far as 2nd transfer, all great grades but fresh didn't take despite being top grade and frozen one did, but I pushed for progesterone support in the form of lubion rather than pessaries as I wasn't absorbing well. I was above the clinic threshold but only just.

I bled before OTD for the fresh, did you find that too? Did your clinic check progesterone levels before transfer?

Sorry to add we are also male factor x

@Imisscoffee2021 thanks for your reply. Yes am feeling fortunate that we still have more.

yes I started bleeding early on my fresh transfer when I was taking 2 pessaries a day. I took 3 for my frozen and didn’t bleed early but my progesterone levels were never checked. Would this be checked by a blood test before the transfer is done? We are NHS so I’m not sure if that is why but will try and push for it at my review. I wouldn’t mind if we had to pay to have it even. Is lunion an injection? Will definitely ask about it too.

and congrats on your successful transfer!

I was private as we had a huge waiting list in our ccg, so could pay for it, not sure how nhs does add ons etc but cant see why you can't, hope you can.

Lubion is a daily injection, it did add to the cost, was £100 a week and I took it to 12 weeks but it wasn't needed that long really, I had my progesterone checked at a private place at 11 weeks before coming off and it was off the charts high, placenta was doing its job by then. The clinic checked my progesterone a few days before transfer and it was 35, so I got lubion. I didn't have a check after that, til I got a separate one at 11 weeks (discharged by ivf clinic by then).

And thank you, he's one now, ivf can be such a miracle :) hope you get your miracle too x

@Imisscoffee2021 yes we got very lucky with the waiting lists in our area. Our clinic also does private work though so hopefully they will let us pay for add ons, I think only embryo glue is offered by NHS as standard but not sure if consultants can add others on if they think necessary. I will ask and wouldn’t mind paying for the higher dose if it will help.

thanks so much for sharing your experience has definitely gave me a few things to ask at our review! And congratulations on your son, I love hearing the success stories!

Hi OP, sorry to hear this round hasn't worked for you. Try to remember that grading can only tell you so much about an embryo (often people talk about it being like a beauty contest) it doesn't necessarily mean either embryo was actually viable. This forum is absolutely full of stories of higher graded embryos results in BFN, and BFPs on 'lower' graded embryos. Wishing you the best of luck with your next transfer
