PCOS metaformin not working

I've been taking metformin for three months and it hasn't encouraged ovulation.. nor have I been having any bad side effects so it feels a little bit like taking a placebo in all honesty.

32, recently diagnosed with PCOS after coming off the pill for years and years.
I don't want to go back on the pill. I really want to get a regular cycle...getting a period every 4 months currently. It might even be better longer with time.

Did anyone else have the same? Wanted to ask on here before I slog myself back to the GP. I did go private to see an infertility expert who put me on metaformin and inositol. I've also cut back massively on sugar, alcohol etc.

My BMI is 26, size 10. Fit and healthy but have to be strict with my food. Wouldn't be able to lose any weight to save my life as have tried for years with all the classic calories in/out and exercise but it's useless with PCOS, but someone suggested weight loss might kick start it so I'm seriously considering Juniper which i never thought I'd say.

Hey! I would say if you’re a size 10, with a BMI of 26, you don’t need to lose any weight at all. I have PCOS and myo-inositol has regulated my cycles. I’m also taking vitamin D and drinking spearmint tea. I was anywhere between 25-52 days, but now I’m about 28-30 days per cycle. It may take some time for your cycle to regulate if you have been on the pill for some time. Hope your cycles get regulated soon. If not, go back to the doctors and ask them to run a blood test so you can see where your hormones are at etc x

Thank you for the advice! I'm also taking myo-inositol (myova) and I definitely feel less bloated and tired but no luck with my cycles so far. Hormones were all ok, including testosterone. I have noticed that I've gained a stone and I'm experiencing a lot of excess hair I didn't have since I came off the pill. Possibly it's just a waiting came but I was really hoping my combined efforts and metaformin would kick start it l...
Possibly there is something stronger I need to be on? It's so hard because everyone's experience is so different

I have PCOS. Diagnosed approx 15 years ago.
I tried Metformin but it did absolutely nothing for me. They said it doesn’t work for everyone.
inositol definitely helped regulate my cycle for a couple of years though.

I took spironalactone with metformin and myo inositol which made my periods regular. The only thing is if you want to get pregnant you have to come off spironalactone for 3 months first as it can cause problems with the foetus. So could be an option?

I came off the pill and didn’t have a period for a year, started taking metformin but it was spironalactone that really made the difference. I then stopped it when we wanted to TTC, my periods were regular and it took 5 months to conceive, sadly miscarried.

then started taking low dose aspirin (150mg) per day alongside metformin and myo inositol and got pregnant straight away, carried on taking them throughout and just stopped the aspirin a few days before my c section. 3 years later we wanted to try again so I started on the aspirin and got pregnant first month! I am now 22 weeks.

good luck xx
