NHS Process

We were referred for IVF by our GP in March, and at the beginning of August told to expect a call in regards to discussing our eligibility for NHS funding.

I chased, and that 1 women is on holiday until September and then she'll have a backlog so it'll likely be several weeks before we're contacted which is incredibly frustrating.

Can anyone tell me what happens from here if we receive the funding? No one has explained the steps and timeframe

Many thanks,

Hi! I don't think this will help, but it seems to be so different by area and clinic!! So sorry I know that isn't an answer but there isn't a set rule. The wait is the hardest bit, just think at least you're in a 'queue', and chasing again in September for estimated timelines might help.
Sorry I can't be more helpful.

I've had lots of positive and negative experiences in the build up to IVF, let us know what part of the UK you are in and I'll be happy to share my experiences if it's helpful 🙃🙏

Update ? I’m in a similarish situation

worldwidetravel2017 · 23/03/2025 11:24

Different in different areas

Treatment can / could start 3 - 4 months after funding approved.

Some people try drugs from clinic b4 ivf

LilyPoppet1 · 23/03/2025 18:08

We had to do further tests once the lady came back from holiday that hadn't been included as part of our GP referral. Once she submitted, we were approved funding and reffered to fertility clinic. We had our meeting and collected medication on 7th January, and had our egg collection on 5th Feb. And now we have a frozen transfer booked for approx 29th April. So it took 10 months from GP referral to meeting with clinic

Good luck for your frozen transfer :)

How did you find the ivf so far / egg collection etc ?

We haven't had a great experience so far, in my opinion. We have mfi, and my amh level is great. We retrieved 19 eggs, and ended up with 1 low grade. It transpires that my amh is a little too high, so half my eggs were immature, and I suffered from ohss. I dont feel the clinic managed our expectations and medication appropriately
Finding it tricky to be positive as we head into this transfer,

No, I dont have pcos and it was never mentioned until after we almost had complete failure
We don't have a choice of clinics unless we go private so we have a bit of a decision to make

I'm really sorry to hear this, I had a very similar experience on my first round, I had 21 eggs collected and 1 "poor grade" embryo, I understand the the heartbreak of the drop off stage, didn't want to read and not comment, sending lots of love and all the luck in the world with your transfer, your 1 little fighter is still going strong and there is every chance of a positive outcome💛

Happyclappy22 · 24/03/2025 21:51

I know nothing about transfers or anything to do with IVF as still at the VERY early stages of it all. Was told I’d be referred by Guys 2 weeks ago so don’t even know timeframes. Hope it works out for you @LilyPoppet1 please keep us updated. Remember all it takes is one ☺️

Happyclappy22 · 28/08/2025 17:32

@LilyPoppet1 hows it going ? Any update ?

LilyPoppet1 · 28/08/2025 17:43

Hey! Good timing, we had our 2nd egg collection a week ago!
We collected 34 eggs, and now have 7 blastocyst in the freezer! Pretty pleased with that.
Now we wait again! Got to have a follow up which the clinic cannot do until end of September, and then book in for transfer

How are you getting on?

It's not something offered on NHS as far as I'm aware, or the clinic certainly haven't discussed or offered it
