How often to ejaculate prior to starting ivf?

Just that really! Will start taking meds in about two weeks for first ever round so sperm “collected” in about 4/5 weeks depending on how everything goes! I’ve seen it said that it should be every two days which is doable but I just wanted to make sure this isn’t something a man made up somewhere along the way!! Thanks all ☺️

Regular ejaculation is best to keep the sperm fresh, so every 2 days should be fine. The final one being the day before egg collection, if he's providing a fresh sperm sample on the day. Clinics used to say abstinence for 3-5 days which will give you a higher count but they'll be of lower quality. Newer research shows more frequent ejaculation results in better quality sperm with less DNA fragmention and that's what you want

We were advised by our clinic that the last ejaculation should take place on day of trigger. Trigger is usually given 30+ hours before egg collection. Day of egg collection he provides a sample. Good luck!

Thanks @Pep1952 eggs and sperm collected three weeks ago and all very successful so won’t need to do it again thankfully!

@MrsBP15 congratulations! I hope it’s all going well. We’re doing our first IVF cycle this month and trying to approach it with excitement and positive mindset but I can’t help but think of the worst sometimes! My AMH is 3.5, follicle count 3-8 but hoping for the best x
